Australia’s biggest supplier of coal generation and baseload power, AGL Energy, has again underlined there is no room for nuclear in Australia’s transition to renewables – neither on a grid dominated by wind and solar not at its coal sites that it intends to transform into clean industrial hubs. “I’d like to clarify – as I did in March – that nuclear energy is not part of our strategy and our position on this remains unchanged, AGL CEO Damien Nicks said in a presentation to a CEDA event in Sydney. Nicks’ position is important because two of AGL’s coal generation sites have been identified by the federal Opposition for its nuclear power plans, which it says could see seven reactors, or more, start construction sometime in the 2030s or 2040s – should they be elected, be able to remove the bans, find the technology and finance, and the sites to host it. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech

Saudi-owned Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has switched on its solar/battery hybrid project in Dalby, Queensland, and one of the first true “hybrid” projects in Australia. FRV first proposed the 2.45 megawatt (MW) solar farm and 2.54 MW/5MWh battery in 2021, taking advantage of a proposed rule change at the time which allowed different renewable energy generators and batteries to share a grid connection point. Before the changes, it wasn’t possible to build renewables projects in stages or to share dedicated connection assets between projects or stages. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech

The design for a new tender under the federal government’s Capacity Investment Scheme has been quietly rolled out, this time for at least 2,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of battery storage in Western Australia. The tender – registrations open this month – is going to seek 500 megawatts of battery capacity with an average of four hours storage (hence 2,000 MWh), but its design is complicated by the presence of capacity credits in the W.A. energy market. W.A. is an interesting challenge for market operators and regulators as it is an islanded grid with no connections to other states, and little prospect of any, unless someone really wants to string some poles and wires across the Nullarbor or maybe to Indonesia via a sub-sea cable. Some actually have considered the latter idea, but for green energy exports. #Design #Engineering #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech

Opposition leader Peter Dutton keeps on telling us that battery storage is not really a thing. “Hopefully, the battery technology is about to be discovered, but not yet,” he said just a few months ago. Well, Dutton may be shocked to learn that battery storage has been well and truly “discovered.” So much so that Tesla’s battery business alone is already valued by analysts at around $A200 billion, and may soon be worth more than the company’s electric car business. Perhaps it’s time for a phone call or another billionaire tweet. The $A200 billion valuation for Tesla Energy, which makes the Powerwall battery that goes into people’s homes, and the Megapack product that is used in large scale storage projects, and helps to keep the lights on in Australia and other major grids, comes from a new analysis from investment bank Morgan Stanley. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech #Tesla #Battry #Australia

The latest tender for new wind and solar capacity in New South Wales has come up well short of expectations, with contracts awarded to just two projects – one a wind farm that has already been built, and the other a new solar and battery hybrid project. The auction, the fourth in a series held by the NSW government as it seeks new wind, solar and storage capacity to replace its ageing coal generators, sought 3,000 gigawatt hours of new generation, equivalent to more than 1,100 megawatts (MW) of new solar and wind capacity. On Friday, it was revealed that only two projects had been selected, totalling just 312 MW of capacity. One is the 140 MW Flyers Creek wind project near Orange that is owned by Iberdrola, and which has already completed construction and has started to inject power into the grid. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech

#Renewableenergy #Gridpower #Network #Australia #Busines #Engineer #Energy Two Australian clean energy developers and investors have announced plans to build a portfolio of 27 small battery storage projects across three Australian states that will total arounds 270 MWh. The Adelaide headquartered Sustainable Energy Infrastructure (SEI) and clean energy developer Acenergy (ACE) will build seven 5MW/10MWh batteries located across regional Victoria in the first phase of the build. The second phase would consist of a further 20 battery storage projects with a combined capacity of 100MW/200MWh located across South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales. That will take the total plan to 135 MW and 270 MWh.
