As Sepsis Awareness Month concludes, we share the story of Jeroen Bursens, who almost lost his life to this deadly disease, a condition that kills about one-third of the 49 million people it affects annually. Jeroen's hospital-acquired infection that triggered sepsis after a routine surgery highlights the critical need for early detection and treatment. Thermo Fisher's diagnostic tools play a vital role in this fight and help clinicians make informed decisions and improve patient outcomes. It was wonderful to see so many of our customers, healthcare practitioners, researchers and investors gathered at the World Medical Innovation Forum in Boston this week. The event, sponsored by Mass General Brigham and Bank of America, brought all of these stakeholders together to share insights into new discoveries and innovations in research and medicine. I was honored to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the exciting time we are living in – which I see as the Golden Age of Biology – and Thermo Fisher’s role in propelling it. Science continues to advance at a rapid pace, with huge strides being made in our understanding of disease and the development of novel therapies. Thermo Fisher is powering these breakthroughs by providing cutting-edge products and services. We are innovating diagnostics that facilitate the administration of personalized and targeted therapies to improve patient care. Our leading proteomics technologies are enabling new insights into the mechanisms of disease, identification of novel protein drug targets, design of new drug candidates and development of new diagnostic biomarkers. And our clinical research and pharma services are helping our customers to bring new therapies to patients faster and more cost-effectively. As I look ahead, I’m very excited about the future as we continue work together with our customers to improve lives and create a brighter future for all.
