They say that retailing and healthcare services have little in common, but CVS has managed to find the common denominator: it can't make either one work right now. After the drugstore chain began an aggressive and what-many-people-thought brilliant plan to layer on healthcare to their retail business — even renaming the company CVS Health and walking away from an estimated $1 billion-plus worth of business by banning cigarette sales — the company seemed well on its way to becoming a dominant player in both sectors. So, imagine our surprise hearing them admit failure and that they are, according to rumors, looking to break up the company — deconstructing all they built over the past decade. Listen, healthcare services are different than retail businesses and other players like Walmart have also walked away from ambitious plans to merge the two. CVS just seemed to have a better business model for making this work. Drugstores and healthcare services are not going away; they are fundamental parts of the American economy, particularly with an aging population. Somebody else is going to find a way to make this combination work: 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗖𝗩𝗦 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸. #RetailNews #RetailMarketing #RetailInnovation
