Today we celebrate Independence Day by recognizing the many incredible men and women over the years who sacrificed so much so that we can experience the freedoms of living in this country. Among the long list includes Dale Buck, a 96-year-old World War II veteran and resident of The Springs at Wilsonville in Oregon, who served three years in the Coast Guard. It is an honor to serve Dale and many other veterans who risked their lives to serve our country. It all started with our founder's promise to his grandmother not to move her into "an old folks' home." To fulfill that promise, when he grew up, he built a warm and welcoming community in Salem, Oregon, which would feel like home to her and be staffed with loving people who felt like family. This was the beginning of what would become The Springs Living. For nearly 30 years, that promise has expanded to the thousands of older adults we have served across the Northwest.
