The text of the UK Kings Speech was expected to contains two mentions of future legislation on AI in the UK. The first is related to energy security, though quite what is meant is unclear. The second mention is related to employment rights. In Keir Starmer’s preamble it says: “[Employment Rights Bill]. It will seek to establish the appropriate legislation to place requirements on those working to develop the most powerful artificial intelligence models.” The section of the document covering the Employment Rights Bill does not elaborate, but might mean, as in the EU, that some forms of supervision of workers using AI might not be permitted or be subject to regulation. It could alternately mean that AI will in some way be limited to protect jobs. Why high-risk AI solutions should use ThinkBase I've just talked to someone at the Wolves summit in Vienna who's company supplies AI solutions using big-tech models to large corporates. Uncertainty about the EU's AI act, President Biden's AI announcements and the recent UK AI summit are causing a bottleneck in their deal flow. Companies are worried that systems they create now may have to be redesigned or limited later. The landscape is still shifting, but since ThinkBase's tech is auditable and transparent you can be sure it will pass whatever the regulators throw at you.

We've got a lot of experience of AI here, especially in the area of time series prediction for finance. It was disappointing to see a request about using deep learning for time series prediction on this site repeat the same snake oil that was current 30 years ago. There are things you can't predict. This ought to be obvious, but many people seem to think that deep learning can defeat the laws of mathematics. Chaos and complexity theory are now 60 years old. It's time some people read the occasional paper. At ThinkBase, our stance on ethical AI extends to telling the customer what can't be done, as well as what can be done, rather than just taking the money and shrugging when things don't work.
