Alabamian and national icon Lilly Ledbetter recently died at the age of 86. Ledbetter filed a lawsuit against Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. came after working more than 19 years at the company’s Gadsden plant. Ledbetter sued the company, she said, after an anonymous note informed her that she was making as much as $2,000 a month less than men in the same job. A jury later awarded Ledbetter $3.3 million in damages, but that was later struck down. Then-President Barack Obama's first law he signed after taking office in 2009 was the The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Ledbetter was honored as a 2015 Women Who Shape the State. "(My greatest hope for Alabama is) to improve income and education to create a better life for all," she told AL.com after receiving the award. Read more about Ledbetter at our link in comments.

Let's look at some of them. (This story is brought to you by Made in Alabama - Alabama Department of Commerce.)

The Prescott House, one of Alabama’s first child advocacy centers, has been quietly but powerfully changing lives. This unassuming facility on Birmingham’s Southside has served as a sanctuary where young victims find not just support, but also relief, comfort and a path to justice for nearly 40 years. The Prescott House was founded in 1986 with a mission to provide a safe, child-friendly environment for young abuse victims. What sets Prescott House apart is its comprehensive, child-centered approach to addressing abuse cases. The center brings together a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including law enforcement, child protective services, medical expert and mental health professionals, all under one roof to collaborate on a comprehensive and effective response to each case. The Alabama Peanut Co. – an iconic Birmingham business with a history that goes back to 1907 – will open its second shop, and first outside #BirminghamAL, in downtown #Tuscaloosa this week. The Tuscaloosa location opens Friday at 411 23rd Ave. in Tuscaloosa’s Temerson Square area. Alabama Peanut Co. owner Jaime Thursby told AL.com that he has been looking to open another location for a while, and being a college town with 40,000-plus students and a voracious appetite for sports, Tuscaloosa checks a lot of boxes. “It’s the No. 1 college sports town,” Thursby says. “It just made sense for us.
