Last month WPBS worked with the Credo team at the Farm to develop a video that showcases the Art Therapy Program that is offered through various programs at Credo. WPBS, Craig Frederick (Farm Program Director), Liz Stevens (Licensed Creative Art Therapist), and the clients at the Farm did an incredible job representing the person-centered, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed services that are offered as part of this long-standing program at Credo. Check out the video!

As posted by Northern New York Community Foundation foundation via Facebook: Meet Max Simser, an eighth grader at Watertown City School District's Case Middle School. For Max, “community is the structure in which our lives are formed through where we live. Such things as the people we interact with, the services provided, and the places we visit are all important things within a community.” “Another thing I love about living in my community is the accessibility for kids my age to walk or ride bikes to locations like the YMCA, sports fields, the library, and other places kids my age want to go and have fun.” he wrote in his winning essay. Max is a 2023-2024 Northern New York Community Foundation Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge winner. He selected Credo Community Center for the Treatment of Addictions, Inc. to receive a $1,000 grant for its work to help people live better lives. “Credo has been a valuable organization in our community since 1973 to help those who struggle with mental health and substance abuse,” Max wrote. “Having happy, healthy community members is important for creating an environment where people can thrive.” Max recently met with Credo Executive Director John Wilson and presented a $1,000 Youth Giving Challenge grant that will help Credo continue its work and mission. The grant is supported by donors to the Friends of the Foundation Annual Community Betterment Fund, a partnership with Community Bank, N.A., and a leadership gift from an anonymous donor. Pictured, from left, Max’s parents, Erin and Shane Simser; Max Simser, Case Middle School student and Youth Giving Challenge winner; and John Wilson, Credo Executive Director. We are grateful to Max for his thoughtful effort and support. We are even more impressed that he is one of dozens of thoughtful youths who looked inside his community to recognize an organization that works to improve quality of life. The 2023-2024 Youth Giving Challenge asked students from Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties to explain in an essay what community means to them and to choose a nonprofit that embodies their definition of community. Max’s essay is one of 10 chosen from 128 submissions that came from nine different tri-county school districts. Look for more photos and stories behind the Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge in the coming weeks. #NNYCF #Credo #Partners #YouthGivingChallenge #CommunitySpirit #Community
