Managing communities requires one to be mostly versatile in community management. Communities differ one to the other and this is what makes the life of a CM interesting. One minute you're managing a community of scuba divers and the next, it's a community of corporate professionals. Stumbling upon a call for community managers for an SDG initiative piqued my interest. One had to have prior experience in the SDG field (which I did) to qualify. I applied and was selected. It was quite an interesting journey managing teenagers. They were asked to choose an SDG of interest and know more about it. I was their go-to person in our segmented group, who will remind them to join their Zoom meetings where SDG pros will discuss the SDG for the week, made sure they submit their tasks and assignments on time, had in group discussions with them, sourced for relevant materials and just generally checked in. Some days were a 100 and others, not so much. It's just like managing a typical community. You will have your active members and your lurkers. It was an experience filled with mixed emotions. I also learnt quite more about the SDGs and I was particularly drawn to SDG 14: Life Below Water. The topics discussed and materials shared gave me a new perspective of what goes on down there and how important it is to keep our bodies of water clean and debris free, for the sake of the lives in them. I am grateful to The Innovative Child Network for nurturing and grooming teenagers to be aware of important issues in society, taking on projects about it and actually becoming leaders early on. Shaping the minds of these young individuals helps to form their character and values at a crucial stage of the human life and gives them something to positively focus their attention on. Keep up the fantastic work!!! 👏🏽👏🏽 It was a truly amazing experience! #sdgs #societalissues #environment #teenagers #aweleokwudarue
