After 9/11, FEMA established the National Incident Management System (NIMS) on March 1, 2004, to enhance unity and capability in incident response. Over the past 20 years, NIMS has evolved, driven by the contributions of numerous stakeholders who have informed updates and innovations. NIMS has been a critical tool for standardized incident management, especially during complex, multijurisdictional events. The newly released "20 Years of NIMS" report outlines its history, updates, and global outreach efforts. Meet Delilah Ruiz, Director of the Grants and Program Management Division, Team Lead for Infrastructure Projects! For National Hispanic Heritage Month, Delilah told us more about her role at Tidal Basin and her favorite parts of Latin culture: 🔶Tell us what you enjoy about your role at Tidal Basin “What I like about my work is being able to facilitate and support our clients, managing and maximizing federally funded programs that improve the social and economic opportunities for disadvantaged communities and counties. It is also rewarding to know we can support the Public and Private Sectors, ensuring effective program and project implementation and compliance with Federal Regulations. I have also been a key stakeholder in investing federal dollars in a timely and responsible manner.” 🔶What do you enjoy most about Latin culture? “What I love the most about being Latina are two things: our spontaneity and the level of empathy we have. Latinos are curious, intrepid, and resilient, and all those characteristics make us very authentic but also spontaneous. We don’t hide emotions or questions either. On the other hand, our level of empathy can let us feel the struggles of the people we relate to, but also, we can celebrate our other triumphs.” We’ll continue sharing more stories from our Hispanic colleagues this month! #FederalGovernment #EmergencyManagement #HispanicHeritageMonth
