" Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence—true friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation. Leaders strive for continual improvement every day. Continual improvement means finding steady growth over time. It is becoming a little better each and every day. Over time, these small improvements add up like a snowball rolling down a hill. Instantaneous/drastic change is more like crash dieting. It tends to “work” for a short period of time but typically isn’t sustainable and may lead you back to the same or a worse place than when you started. Strong leaders strive for continual improvement in themselves and their team, ensuring steady progress toward mission success. For this week, in what areas could you and your team improve to make steady progress toward your mission? What about your personal life? #LeadershipDevelopment #PersonalDevelopment #TeamDevelopment #Teamwork #TierOneInc

Strong leaders refine their vision to be simple and clear. They continually ask themselves about their vision to ensure they deeply understand. Examples are: ✔Why is it important? ✔What are/who benefits? ✔Why is success imperative? ✔What resources and skills are needed? ✔What is the timeline? They bring their vision to trusted mentors, advisors, and current team members for further refinement and to learn: ✔Does the vision make sense? ✔What doesn’t make sense? ✔What gaps need to be filled? ✔Is the “call to arms” strong enough? ✔Do they believe in the vision and feel that success is imperative? Continually refining their vision not only makes finding your team easier, it also helps strengthen your resolve to see the vision through. Take some time in the next few days to refine your vision either on your own or with others. Where isn’t the vision simple? Where isn’t it clear? Do you or others feel the need to see the vision through to success? #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamDevelopment #Teamwork #PersonalDevelopment #TierOneInc

Achieving mission success starts with a vision. This vision will help rally the troops, develop an action plan, and execute the plan until success is achieved. A true leader knows that any old vision isn’t enough to complete the mission. Instead, a true leader strives for a clear, easily communicated vision. With this, they are more likely to form the right team. The clearer the vision, the easier it will be to develop the action plan. And a clear, easily communicated vision will pull the team through the tough times and remind them why each step is important, even when they don’t feel like completing their next step in the plan. If you have a vision but are struggling to achieve it, what is breaking down? Is it not clear and easy to communicate? Is the plan insufficient? Do you not believe that completing the mission is imperative enough to pull you through the tough times? #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamDevelopment #Teamwork #PersonalDevelopment #TierOneInc

Leaders are respected for their actions. A weak leader assumes they have the respect of their team. A strong leader knows they must earn the respect of their team. A weak leader loses respect by holding the team to the standard but not themselves. A strong leader earns respect by holding themselves above the standard set for the rest of the team. A weak leader is quick to blame and keeps the praise for themselves. A strong leader takes blame for the failures of their team and ensures the credit is given were due. Every action a leader takes adds to or reduces the respect from their team. What actions are you currently taking that makes your team respect you more? What actions are you currently taking that makes your team respect you less? Follow the path of the strong leader and take actions to gain the respect of your team and yourself. #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamDevelopment #Teamwork #PersonalDevelopment #TierOneInc

Strong leaders aren’t afraid to stand alone. Standing alone doesn’t mean you act on your own. Standing alone means making the tough call when you know it is the right thing to do even when your team disagrees. It means taking ownership for the failures of your team and being accountable for your own failures in leadership. Standing alone means exceeding the standard set for the rest of the team, not just meeting the standard. When have you had to stand alone as a leader? What have you learned from observing leaders who have had to stand alone? #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamDevelopment #Teamwork #PersonalDevelopment #TierOne

Strong leaders improve every day. They know that continued success requires continual growth. Weak leaders think the individuals on their team need to grow but the leader does not. Strong leaders know that their own continual growth is imperative. It is about staying above the standard and demonstrating through action and not words. When a weak leader isn’t growing, why would they expect their team to grow? When a strong leader grows, they inspire their team to do the same. So, remember this common saying in the SEAL Teams - “The only easy day was yesterday.” - and push yourself to improve in at least one area today. Your future self, and your team, will thank you. #LeadershipDevelopment #TeamDevelopment #Teamwork #PersonalDevelopment #TierOne
