Our creativity makes it possible. Our experience makes it practical.

About us

In a field known for black-and-white thinking, Tighe & Bond focuses on bright ideas, green strategies, and clear solutions. Working with public and private organizations across the northeast, our engineering and environmental consulting projects demand creative, collaborative responses to complex questions. Four things combine to make us unique. First is our commitment to thoroughly understanding client needs, and through that understanding, help them succeed. Second is our deliberate regional focus on the northeastern United States. We like it that way, and frankly, so do our clients. Third is our position as a major firm in this dynamic region. We have very strong, full-service offerings staffed locally by people who live in these communities. And fourth is our ownership model. We’re owned by our employees, so we all feel truly invested in our clients’ success. We’re built this way on purpose. These four elements fuse together to assure outstanding client and project outcomes, and exciting opportunities for employees. Tighe & Bond’s talented engineers, planners, scientists, landscape architects and support staff do great work that benefits our clients, our communities and this entire region that we love.

We collaborated with the Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration (DER) and City of Northampton, MA on the removal of Nashawannuck Brook Dam, part of the larger Nashawannuck Brook Restoration. The project looks to improve a 105-acre site formerly used as a golf course, with the goal to preserve open space, improve ecological function and resilience, and provide passive recreation. Our services included topographic and bathymetric surveying, wetland delineation, hydrologic & hydraulic studies, sediment assessment and management, permit-level design plans and memorandum, and design visualization. Our landscape architecture studio Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio created a landscape concept of the post-construction project area that enhances visitor experience and preserves open space with a trail connection, naturalized brook course and edge, and restored wetlands.

Did you know that nature is directly linked to our wellbeing? Spending time outdoors is directly linked to many positive mental health outcomes such as improved focus, lower stress, better mood, and many other benefits. We encourage you to get outside to enjoy the beautiful green and blue spaces around you. If you aren’t sure where to start, check out our project map for some of our completed restoration areas that provide open space for the public! We are grateful for the opportunity to work with WDC, CT DECD, US EPA, NVCOG, Manafort Brothers, and other stakeholders on this important Brownfields cleanup project! Removing the buildings is the first step in bringing the property back into productive use and achieving the City’s vision for revitalizing the Mad River corridor.

Over the past few months, our project management team has worked closely with Tighe & Bond. Inc. (Licensed Environmental Professional) and Manafort Brothers Inc. (Construction Company) to facilitate the demolition and loading/disposal of hazardous building debris of the Former Waterbury Button Factory. This historic factory (c. 1812) was known for melting brass and pewter pots into military buttons used on uniforms throughout the Civil War, World War I, and World War II. Throughout the past few years, Connecticut's Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments, and the Environmental Protection Agency has provided financial assistance and expertise to complete this project. The demolition and removal of these hazardous building materials will finish in the coming weeks to positively impact resident’s public health, achieve environmental justice, and drive socioeconomic mobility in the City of Waterbury. This project is another example of the #sustainablegrowth and #brownfieldredevelopment projects in Waterbury.  . . . This project was only possible because of the collaboration between local, state, and federal stakeholders. WDC is excited to continue working towards the environmental cleanup and redevelopment of this parcel, which will complement the rest of the brownfields cleanup in the Mad River Corridor! We recently celebrated the completion of a new 1 MGD water storage tank in Derby, CT, operated by the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority and designed by our engineers. Now operational, the Derby storage tank provides additional fire flow capacity, increased water pressure and storage, and improved system reliability west of the Naugatuck River. We are honored to be a member of a collaborative team with significant stakeholder involvement on such an impactful and successful project.
