Snap Inc. CEO Evan Spiegel believes that augmented reality could eventually drive ad dollars into his business. But it’s safe to say advertisers aren’t convinced just yet. After months of collaboration between retailers, agencies, and brands, the IAB recently released a new set of standards for in-store retail media in order to help the industry align on how digital ads are sold and measured inside retail stores. The standards defines five different areas of a store where ads can be placed: exterior, entrance, checkout, in aisle, and along the perimeter of the store. It also sets definitions for sales measurement metrics and media metrics for ad serving and impressions. “We have to educate an entire industry on in-store,” said Tinuiti's Elizabeth Marsten to Kathryn Lundstrom at ADWEEK, referring to adtech and digital media players less familiar with the terminology of retail businesses.
