  • Recently, Toitoi had the incredible privilege of hosting the Toitū Te Reo Festival, a vibrant celebration of Te Reo Māori and Māori culture. This festival brought together our community to honor and uplift the richness of the Māori language through music, workshops, performances, and more. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of such a significant event, contributing to the preservation and promotion of our first language. The energy and passion shared by all attendees and performers were truly inspiring. Ngā mihi nui to everyone involved! We look forward to continuing our journey of supporting and celebrating Te Reo Māori. Dr. Jeremy MacLeod | Traci Tuimaseve | Ngāti Kahungunu Iwi Inc. • It was a privilege to host the annual Hawke’s Bay Young Fruitgrowers Awards at Toitoi - Functions On Hastings recently. Horticulture plays a hugely important role in Hawke’s Bay, so it was fantastic to see that the next generation of growers is thriving with amazing talent coming through. Taking advantage of the flexibility of the spaces at Toitoi, guests were welcomed to the Cushing Foyer for canapes and drinks, before moving forward into Functions On Hastings for the main event. It was great to work with Planit Events, Dish Catering, and Alphapix Photography, who managed the event, provided amazing food, and captured the night perfectly. 🍎 Hawke's Bay Fruitgrowers' Association 📋 Bex Tacon 📷 John Cowpland

  • “To take a child to the theatre, to places of community and to live art, is not just introducing them to the magic of storytelling or the wonder of other worlds, but also allows them to look within. It ensures that they are shown that understanding themselves is an act of identity, and that understanding others is an act of empathy” - Emily Tomlins, Polyglot Theatre. To make Lift Off Kids Festival more accessible to tamariki throughout the region, Toitoi has launched a new pay it forward kaupapa called the 100s and 1000s Club! The club aims to leverage community support to donate 1000 tickets to kids in Te Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay. If you are interested in donating a $10 ticket or multiple tickets, simply click the link below 🎟🎟 https://lnkd.in/e4HmGvWg

Before we sign out for the year, we want to pass on our warmest thanks to all who supported Toitoi in 2023 - booking events, buying tickets, the local baristas who kept us caffeinated, the list goes on! • A vital report, commissioned by Creative NZ and called New Mirrors, was launched recently by independent researchers and arts experts Rosabel Tan and Dr James Wenley. New Mirrors gives important insights into challenges within the current arts and culture media ecosystem in Aotearoa - both in terms of what arts are being covered and how. The report also offers recommendations on what we can do to strengthen this ecosystem. Our Arts & Culture Manager Megan Peacock Coyle and Marketing Manager Rosie Dawson-Hewes both took part in the conversations which underpin this report. • Last night some of our team attended the annual Events Venues Association of New Zealand (EVANZ) Awards in Ōtepoti Dunedin, which recognises the ✨stars✨ within the entertainment venues industry. Toitoi left the celebrations last night with two epic wins, as well as two incredible finalists, to shower in fanmail upon their return. To commence the showering, we want to give a MASSIVE shout out to our tech manager extraordinaire, Dane Fletcher who won Team Member of the Year! The judges said, “Dane’s application was strong with clear examples of Dane going above and beyond...He sounds like a team member that would be a real asset to any venue and community.” It's people like Dane who keep things running smooth and seamlessly at Toitoi and without which, our beautiful wee venue would not be the same. Speaking of beautiful venues, our Toitoi also took our the title of Small Venue of the Year (for the second time)! The judges said, “This entry was a great snapshot of why Toitoi is such a special venue. It’s ambitious, innovative, and proud to be part of the community that it works with.” It's true! We are so proud to be a part of the Te Mātau-a-Maui community, and of our team, you brilliant bunch of legends! 🙌

A great two days at our annual company hui. Always a great opportunity to come together and be reminded of the amazing work we all do as a team here in New Zealand and offshore. We spent time talking about RDCL’s core focus - partnerships with land and people for future outcomes, which if we are honest seems very relevant this year with the rebuild ahead. p.s. many thanks to our hosts at Toitoi - Hawke's Bay Arts & Events Centre for a fantastic space.
