Groundbreaking news from Tomorrow.io! 🚨 📡 🛰️ Tomorrow.io, the world's leading Resilience Platform™, today announced the successful launch of its first two microwave sounder satellites. This milestone marks a significant advancement for Tomorrow.io in transforming global weather forecasting, early warning systems, and climate resilience. These sounder-equipped satellites mark the next phase in Tomorrow.io's expanding constellation, aiming to provide unprecedented sub-hourly global atmospheric measurements of temperature, humidity, precipitation, and tropical cyclones—a first for the commercial sector. "With our microwave sounders, we can set a new standard in atmospheric data collection and prediction," said Rei Goffer, Co-Founder, and Chief Strategy Officer of Tomorrow.io, "This technology allows us to capture atmospheric data with exceptional accuracy, especially over oceans and remote areas where traditional observations are scarce.” The launch of these satellites comes at a crucial time in the advancement of AI technology. Tomorrow.io's expanding constellation of weather satellites is creating a critical missing link: high-resolution, global data for training and initializing AI models with real-time observations. This data will not only enhance the accuracy of Tomorrow.io's own models but also has the potential to significantly advance the field of weather prediction and climate modeling. This advancement builds upon Tomorrow.io's groundbreaking Pathfinder radar satellites (https://lnkd.in/gTJDzK9A) which launched in 2023 and have demonstrated performance that matches or exceeds NOAA's NEXRAD benchmark for rainfall measurement. (https://lnkd.in/g3PbyUi6) The addition of microwave sounders further expands the company's observational capabilities, with early data showing promising insights. The satellites are now undergoing initial commissioning, with preliminary datasets expected in the coming weeks. Tomorrow.io's sounder technology is derived from NASA’s TROPICS mission, and the company is concurrently set to rebuild NOAA’s digital infrastructure through the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC) program. The company will continue expanding its constellation, advancing its Resilience Platform™ to address the growing challenges posed by extreme weather and climate change.

Last week, Tomorrow.io was at World Aviation Festival 2024 in Amsterdam. Monica Leal Crombe, Tomorrow.io's Director of Aviation was there speaking about the industry’s most pervasive disruption: weather. She was joined by Wicus du Preez, VP of Data at Oman Air, Daniel Engberg, Head of AI & IT Strategy at SAS - Scandinavian Airlines, Jeff Pan Founder of Belli AI, and Jean-Philippe Beaujard, General Director FlightWatching (a REVIMA company). They had a great discussion on leveraging weather data to enhance safety, optimize operations, and help airlines become resilient. We are proud to be part of conversations pushing the boundaries of aviation innovation! Shout out to Kelly Peters for supporting the event! #weathertech #aviationsafety #aviation

Are you ready for the weather week ahead? 🌧️ ☂️ ☀️ Tomorrow.io's meteorologists have their eyes on notable conditions across the US. Here's this week's snapshot: 🌵 West: Starting the week under a ridge of high pressure, the West enjoys dry conditions and temperatures 5-20°F above normal. However, expect changes as a series of troughs brings rain showers to the Pacific Northwest. By Thursday, a deeper trough will introduce cooler weather and showers, with temperatures dropping to 5-15°F below normal. Snow levels could fall to 5,000-6,000', with potential heavy snow accumulations above 7,000' in the Intermountain West. 🌧️ ❄️ 🌾 Plains: The Plains will remain mostly dry until late Thursday, when showers and thunderstorms are possible in the northern and High Plains. Temperature variations include above-normal in Texas but cooler than usual in the Southern Plains midweek, shifting to warmer conditions across the region by the weekend. 🍂 Midwest/Great Lakes & East Coast: A trough of low pressure will bring showers and possibly the season's first snow mix in higher Appalachian elevations. Temperatures will be notably colder than usual, with daily dips of 5-20°F below normal. By Thursday, a high-pressure ridge will usher in drier and warmer conditions towards the weekend. 🌨️ 🌤️ 🌿 Southeast: Outside of Florida's southern tip and the Keys where daily showers and thunderstorms persist, the Southeast anticipates a dry week with temperatures 5-15°F below normal throughout the region. 🌞 🌦️ 🌀 Tropical Weather: The Atlantic remains watchful with a disturbance in the eastern tropical Atlantic poised to potentially develop into Tropical Depression and possibly Tropical Storm Nadine by the weekend, as it moves westward near Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. 🌪️ Stay prepared and informed with Tomorrow.io as you plan your week! #weeklyweather #weatherhighlights

Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast last Wednesday night as a powerful Category 3 storm. This event provided an opportunity to evaluate the impact of our recently launched microwave sounders on our global satellite precipitation retrieval network under severe weather conditions. This advanced network delivers high-quality precipitation estimates for regions with limited or no ground-based radar coverage. Its accuracy, evaluated against radar observations during Hurricane Milton, is enhanced by using real-time data from our sounder overpasses. With these new satellite observations and AI capabilities, we are taking a significant step forward in global precipitation monitoring. This advancement will enable us to better understand and respond to extreme weather events, ultimately enhancing our ability to protect communities and support disaster resilience efforts. Thanks to Forest Cannon, Senior Atmospheric Data Scientist at Tomorrow.io, for these valuable insights! #WeatherData #HurricaneMilton #WeatherObservation

The Boston Globe recently highlighted Tomorrow.io's innovative approach to global weather forecasting! 🌍 Our two new satellites, equipped with cutting-edge microwave sensors, successfully gathered critical data during Hurricane Helene, validating their performance and advancing our mission to revolutionize weather prediction. By next year, we'll launch 10 more of these satellites, aiming to provide global, hourly weather updates — especially in underserved regions like Africa and Asia. “I’m in the US, what do I care about the weather in Nigeria?” said Rei Goffer, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer. “Well, that’s going to impact your weather later this week. Those poorly covered regions today are where all the error in our models [that provide weather forecasts] is coming from, because we start with the wrong initial conditions.” Read the highlilghts for more on how we're transforming weather forecasting worldwide: https://lnkd.in/gKfR8nWh
