Jane Goodall: "Vote as our children's lives depend on it" At last night’s Climate One event, nearly 1,700 attendees, including more than 600 students and educators, gathered to hear Jane Goodall deliver a heartfelt plea for the future of our planet. In a conversation moderated by Greg Dalton, Goodall’s words pierced through the often numbing barrage of crises that dominate our daily news. "Please vote," she urged. "Choose leaders committed to protecting our natural world." It was a poignant reminder of the stakes we face in 2024, a year marred by relentless climate disasters and tragic losses. The sense of urgency was palpable, matched by the gravity of her message: the next generation depends on us to act decisively, and it starts with the simple, powerful act of voting. In an age where crises feel relentless and solutions seem distant, Jane delivered a message of hope—one grounded in informed optimism, inspired by the real actions that individuals, often of limited means and facing difficult circumstances, are taking in communities around the world. The least we can do in democracies, she reminded us, is vote for candidates who understand that the planet’s future can no longer be delayed. Her “Vote for Nature” campaign comes at a pivotal moment. For the first time in her decades-long career, Goodall is explicitly calling for political action to safeguard our shared home. It marks a bold shift for a figure who has traditionally shied away from electoral politics. But as she made clear, the stakes could not be higher: "Vote as our children's lives depend on it, because honestly, they do." In a world where environmental stewardship is too often sidelined by economic concerns and short-term political gains, Goodall’s call feels both urgent and necessary. She reminded us that while our attention is pulled in many directions, the health of our planet underpins everything we hold dear. For Jane, the path forward is clear: it’s time to choose leaders who will prioritize nature, because, in her words, "when nature thrives, we thrive too."

A huge step forward to save the Jaguar in El Impenetrable, Argentina 💚 Nalá, a female Jaguar born at the Jaguar Reintroduction Centre in El Impenetrable National Park, now lives free in the wild! She and her brother, Takajay, were the first cubs to be born in the centre on January 30, 2021. Nalá is already three and a half years old, and today the doors of her pen opened for her to begin her life in freedom. Nalá joins Keraná who was the first female to join the wild populations of the Argentine Chaco after more than 35 years! Before the release of these two rewilded females, the region hosted an entirely male population; in other words, Nalá and Keraná have restored #rewildinghope to the area, and the teams that work hard to bring back this iconic species. Their presence is crucial to restore South America's top predator and keystone species in this unique ecosystem. Transforming #hopeintoaction, the team at Rewilding Argentina, along with their collaborating local partners, Argentina's National Parks and the Chaco government, are moving toward a future where this great feline can thrive again. #conservation #jaguar #rewilding #impenetrable #jaguar #NationalParks

A FIRST FOR ARGENTINA! 💚 Did you know that Giant Anteaters always give birth to one offspring? It makes sense, as the mama spends many months hauling her offspring on her back through the tall grasses of the wetlands. Tompkins Conservation and Rewilding Argentina piloted the reintroduction of this species in Iberá in 2007. In fact, it was the first species that we reintroduced, and taught us a lot so that we could work on larger and more challenging species. Today, this million-acre protected wetlands has a stable population growing on its own. Every season Rewilding Argentina records new births using clues from camera traps, but this year they had a big surprise: twins! In Argentina this is the first ever record of twin giant anteater pups, added to one recorded occurrence of twin pups in Brazil. #rewilding #rewildinghope #giantanteater

For WORLD OCEAN DAY we’re celebrating the exciting discovery by Fundación Rewilding Chile, offspring of Tompkins Conservation, of rare red hydrocorals (Errina antarctica) in the Patagonian sea at new latitudes and depths. The incredible findings, made in concert with the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, were published in Scientific Report, part of renowned journal Nature, and shed new light on Patagonia’s largely unexplored and little-understood marine ecosystems. A healthy ocean is critical to solving the climate and biodiversity crises. The discovery of these spectacular corals and the diversity of life that they harbor highlights the importance of creating marine protected areas around the world, especially in vulnerable hotspots of biodiversity, and in continuing the exploration of the Patagonia sea and other little-explored ocean regions.
