Thank you The Teaching Family Association!
The question was simple, “What’s you why? The answers blew me away! From the stage last week at The Teaching Family Association Conference, I asked each person to write down their “why” and requested they share their answers with me as we crossed paths throughout the rest of the conference. Wow! Wow! Wow! The personal stories these practitioners and leaders shared, blew me away! As I listened to their hearts, I realized that each story had prepared them for the work they are doing with the most vulnerable among us. These people are changing lives! I left the conference with my cup full. Is that cool?

Want to increase the number of mistakes and bad decisions you make as a leader (and in life)? I have the formula. Surround yourself with people who always agree with you. It may be smooth sailing right not, but trust me, there’s an iceberg ahead and your team is the titanic. Is that cool?

Individual Action, Collective Power! So, I was watching the Wizard of Oz the other night...yep, I'm a fan. Like many movies, every time I watch it, I see or hear something that gets me thinking about leadership, culture, or teamwork...yep, I geek out like that. This time I was struck by the magic that happens when a group of people commit to a common cause, leverage their strengths in pursuit of the cause, and allow the cause to inform the decisions they make. It was a perfect display of Individual Action, Collective Power! Have you ever experienced this kind of magic? HIT ME UP in the comments. I would love to hear about it. Is that cool?

It's been 8 years since launching our company and although there have been lots of changes, here are a few that have remained the same. 1. I still get that "OMG, I can't believe this is happening" feeling, when I see my name in the program 2. I still stay unbelievably nervous until the first words come out of my mouth. Fo real tho! 3. I still listen to the GAP Band right before I hit the stage. Outstanding is my go to. 4. I still count it a privilege to do this work. 5. I still thank God for putting people like you in my life to support me on my journey. God is good all the time! Is that cool?

When helping leaders hone their coaching skills, we have them use Mindful Inquiry with their teams. It is the practice of asking questions with the betterment of the person being questioned in mind. It's not easy, especially in the heat of the moment, but it beats the inquisition approach everyday and twice on Sunday. Is that cool?
