Return-to-office mandates are drawing millions of employees back into traffic congestion, rising commuting costs, and underfunded transit systems. Is it the end of an era—or the start of a TDM golden age? In our latest blog post, we recommend three ways to use this moment to build lasting TDM momentum and ensure sustainable and enjoyable options for ALL workers: 1️⃣ Focus on goals and impact, not politics. 2️⃣ Try out new, flexible commute strategies. 3️⃣ Bring managers and HR teams on board. Today feels like a good day to circle back to this roundabouts video ⭕🛞🥧 #PiDay
We’re circling back to #RoundaboutsWeek to explore what sets well-designed roundabouts apart. It’s not just about keeping cars moving, but improving safety and prioritizing vulnerable road users with these key features: 🚶 Clear right of way: Drivers know to yield to people walking and biking. 🚸 Raised crossings: People walking can cross one lane at a time. 🚴 Separation: People bicycling are physically separated from car traffic. 🔄 Entry angle: Cars need to slow down to make the turn. 🚗 Space to yield: Drivers have room to yield without blocking bike lanes or pedestrian paths. Check out these features in action. 👇

In our decades of experience creating Safe Routes to School (SRTS) infrastructure plans, we’ve determined four key strategies that result in the most impactful youth safety outcomes: ➡️ Provide dedicated space for walking, biking, and rolling. ➡️ Simplify crossings to reduce complexity and potential conflict points. ➡️ Increase visibility to ensure young road users can see and be seen. ➡️ Promote safe speeds along school routes. Curious about additional SRTS best practices? Read our post by SRTS Practice Lead Diane Lambert: https://lnkd.in/ev3Fs6WR

Our Oakland team has been on the move—marking milestones, gathering together, and doing what they do best: designing vibrant streets and places. 💗
Last week was a big one for our Toole Design Group Oakland team! 1. We enjoyed great food and great company at our office holiday party (bike commute to dinner not required, but highly recommended!) and were joined by special guests Alia Anderson and Amalia Leighton Cody. 🍽️🥳 2. Over the last few weeks, Frederick Winter, Christiana Nielsen, and Andrew Kotalik, PE hit their three-year anniversaries! These three are an integral part of our talented and creative Oakland engineering team, and I look forward to many more years of tackling challenges and designing awesome streets and places together. 🌳🚲 3. We missed Cindy Zerger, PLA, ASLA and Derek Magee in the office, but they were having an exciting week of their own, leading a design charrette in Sulphur Springs, TX! 💡✏️
