In previous episodes of the TechLink Health Podcast, we’ve explored emerging health-tech and medical devices that leverage next-gen technologies to enhance health outcomes, such as heart-health devices, neuro-tech, and AI. Despite significant progress, one of the core challenges in scaling these technologies is connected to the themes of adoption and discoverability. To solve for these challenges, one approach is the use of immersive experiences and the gamification of health-tech, where solutions centered around #AugmentedReality, #VirtualReality, and #MixedReality are increasingly viable in the growing “#metaverseinhealthcare” market, expected to reach $80 billion by 2032. In this recent episode, we’re talking about all of this and more as we dig deeper into the evolving space of #neurotech, particularly those focused on #neurorehabilitation for #stroke patients. In the episode, we dig deeper into Torque3, a US based VR and Robotics start-up with the ambition of disrupting the neuro-rehabilitation market and improving the lives of stroke survivors. Torque3 helps stroke survivors significantly improve their recovery outcomes by combining deeply immersive simulations and advanced robotics to help the brain create new neural pathways. Listen in with us as explore how the gamification of health and the emerging metaverse of health are providing new paths to treatment and care. Other insights range from exploring the potential of #photobiomodulation devices, to how observing the "quality-adjusted life years" gained standard can give insights into the success of various treatments, to key publications focused on neuroplasticity for stroke patients. Our game development team has dome a phenomenal job completing a training area and 8 riding environments with over 100 miles that the riders can experience. I'm excited to have this ready for our pilot neurorehabilitation clinic we are opening this summer in SLC. Stay tuned for updates on the Outbounder platform!

This year, Torque3 ran 2 functional assurance evaluations of our platform with neuro-impaired participants. These were 8 week programs and to say the outcomes exceeded our expectations is an understatement. We are pleased that we can now release the case studies from these tests: https://lnkd.in/d--yh27H - for anyone interested in neurorehabilitation, its an exciting read. We especially want to congratulate the hard working team here at Torque3 for making this possible.

An interesting whitepaper from Timothy Lacy, M.D. on the potential use of the Torque3 neurorehabilitation platform to improve the lives of those who suffer from Parkinson's - https://lnkd.in/grQ7EFxP

The "secret sauce" at Torque3 is to manipulate brain behavior to believe there are significant consequences at stake. What we call, the perception of risk. Read Dr. Lacy's white paper on the subject for more: https://lnkd.in/gtsC69yF

Over the next couple of weeks I thought we could share some of the science and research behind the Torque3 platform. Starting with this whitepaper "Integrating Robotics and Virtual Reality to Enhance Neuroplasticity and Stroke Rehabilitation" - https://lnkd.in/gmHDhAGf

Our integration of robotics is to provide accessibility for patients with severe impairments. An additional benefit is that it allows us to work with an enormous amount of objective data from the suite of sensors. The Torque3 platform is data driven, allowing the operators real-time feedback during sessions and PTs the ability to evaluate progress over time.

Deep immersion is crucial to achieving a "Perception of Risk" which is pivotal to our approach to task-oriented therapy. I always have to correct people when they refer to us as a VR experience and point out that we are actually a deeply immersive simulation - VR is just one component of that. When a patient is deeply immersed and intensely engaged, they impart a feeling of risk to most of their actions as they are concerned about the perceived consequences. This is the key to compelling the brain to make permanent neuroplastic change.
