About us

The Town of Smyrna operates under the Council-Manager form of government. This type of local government combines leadership of elected officials as members of our governing body, the Town Council, with the managerial experience of an appointed local government manager. This structure establishes a representative system where all power is concentrated in the elected council and where the council hires a manager to oversee the delivery of public services. In Smyrna’s government, Council Members are the policy makers elected to represent the community and to concentrate on policy issues that are responsive to the needs of its citizens. The Town Manager is appointed by the Town Council to carry out policy, to lead the staff of Directors and Managers of all Town departments, and to ensure that the entire community is being served. Our entire staff is committed to serving the citizens of Smyrna to the best of its ability by adhering to the following Guiding Principles: -Base Every Action on the Well-Being and Security of All Citizens -Demonstrate Excellence in Customer Service -Treat Each Member of Our Organization with Respect -Be Innovative -Be Financially Responsible -Embrace a Mentoring Mindset

The Town of Smyrna is pleased to announce that David Santucci has been appointed as the Town Manager effective October 14, 2024. Santucci previously served as the City Manager for the City of Deerfield Beach, holding various roles since 2011. He will be responsible for executing the day-to-day responsibilities of the Town and the policies set by the Town Council and for coordinating municipal services. Santucci began his public service career in 2004, working in local government in the public procurement profession in Lee County, Florida, and then with the City of Coconut Creek, Florida. He joined the City of Deerfield Beach in June 2011 as the Purchasing Manager and was promoted to Assistant to the City Manager/Purchasing Director in October 2014. In 2016, he was named Assistant City Manager and appointed City Manager in 2019. His leadership helped steer Deerfield Beach through the COVID-19 pandemic and the post-pandemic staffing challenges, as well as establish the city as an attractive place for substantial growth and economic revitalization.  "Dave is the best choice from a pool of qualified candidates," said Mayor Mary Esther Reed. "He has a proven track record and has been successful in his public career. We look forward to his contribution to help Smyrna move forward. More importantly, we think he will be a great fit with the organization, and we are delighted that he has accepted the position. We look forward to him joining our team in October." "I am honored and humbled by the decision of the Town Council to appoint me as Smyrna's Town Manager,” noted Santucci. “I've already had the opportunity to interact with the council members and some of the staff, and everyone has been welcoming. I have no doubt that making Smyrna a home for me and my family is the right decision. As Town Manager, I look forward to working with the staff, council, and community on tough issues and helping to shape Smyrna's future." Santucci is a former United States Marine Corps Sergeant and a Combat Veteran. He holds a Bachelor of Public Management from Florida Atlantic University and an Associate Degree in Arts from Broward College. He and his family are excited to join our community.

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting the Zama delegation. Interim town Manager Jeff Peach welcomed the group. The students visited each department in Town Hall and Fire Station 1. Mayor Reed addressed the students at the Zama Fair at the TCAT campus, discussing the program's rich and vibrant history. We hope the students enjoyed their time at Town Hall as much as we enjoyed their visit!

The Town of Smyrna is conducting a special census to ensure an accurate count of its residents and secure its rightful state-shared revenue, which the State of Tennessee distributes based on population. If the special census results show that we have exceeded our 2020 census population numbers, the Town's state revenues will increase. This increase in revenue directly benefits our community, helping to fund our Police and Fire Departments, build parks, and repair our streets. It is important to conduct this special census now as the state projects to allocate $175 per person in state-shared revenues. If our estimates are accurate, the Town could receive an additional $875,000 annually, please help us keep our taxes low, continue to provide essential services to our citizens, and increase our quality of life in Smyrna by doing your part and completing the census. The form only requires basic information such as address, the first and last names of each household member, and the total number of people residing in the household. It is crucial to include individuals away at college or deployed in the military, as they are also counted. Each household should submit only one form. The information collected in the census is confidential and federal law prohibits it from being shared with courts of law, credit companies, solicitors, the police, the IRS, or immigration. The census information is only provided to census officials. Residents can easily participate in the special census by completing the online form available on the Town’s secure website at https://lnkd.in/eA9CuPub completing the form mailed to their homes or by calling Smyrna Town Hall. For any inquiries or assistance, please contact us via email at census@townofsmyrna.org or at (615) 267-5005. We appreciate your cooperation and participation in this important effort! Remember, Everyone Counts! https://lnkd.in/eGqXYcnu
