A special shout out to Jerry Burch and Earnest Cash, who after 2 years of hard work completed their Advanced Roads Scholar certifications. Members of the Fuquay-Varina Fire Department recently participated in a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) seminar led by Travis Howze. Howze created "Post Traumatic Purpose" for firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, active military and veterans, dispatchers, corrections officers, healthcare workers, and their families. A particularly impactful revelation for our staff was the statistic that first responders are more likely to die from PTSD-related issues than in the line of duty. Our staff left the training with a better understanding of the signs and symptoms of PTSD, mental health resources, and much more.
