Several members of our Streets team were honored at the American Public Works Association - NC Chapter's Combined Equipment Services and Streets Division Conference this week in Wilmington. The APWA-NC recognized 2024 Roads Scholars at a luncheon where the Town of Fuquay-Varina was well represented with 9 Roads Scholars and 3 Advanced Roads Scholars! Offered through the NC State Institute for Transportation Research and Education, the Roads Scholar program offers training on important street maintenance topics. We are grateful to have a committed team that prioritizes education and training to improve service to the public.

Eight employees from the Town of Fuquay-Varina Inspections department were recognized at last night's Town Board meeting for recent certification achievements. One of the proposed projects under consideration as part of Wake County's Library Bond is the expansion of the Fuquay-Varina Community Library. Last fiscal year, this library had the highest circulation of all community libraries. The proposed expansion would make the Fuquay-Varina facility a regional library. Regional libraries are bigger and have more staff, so they can offer more programming and services. Learn more about the Wake County Public Libraries bond referendum ⬇️

Last Thursday, after the return of Caleb and Hunter, two more members of our Fire Department deployed to Western, NC to provide support in the aftermath of #HurricaneHelene. Captain Josh Herring and Firefighter Rodolfo Silva headed to the Garren Creek Fire Department in Fairview, NC equipped with a Brush Truck and UTV. Josh and Rodolfo have been busy helping deliver essential supplies to residents stuck at home, cleaning up their assignment site, working at the food shelter, unloading the Chinook (helicopter) when it brought extra supplies, and being a sounding board for community members. Originally scheduled to return on October 14, their deployment has been extended to October 18 due to an ongoing need. #FuquayVarinaNC

Yesterday, two members of the Fuquay-Varina Fire Department left on a 7-day deployment to western North Carolina to provide critical support in the aftermath of #HurricaneHelene. Equipped with Tanker 4, Caleb Thompson and Hunter Hartley will be staging at the Columbus Fire Department in Polk County, ready to lend a hand wherever needed. Whether it’s providing firefighting water supply, distributing essential supplies, or helping clear roads, our team is committed to making a difference. We are grateful for all first responders as they work together to help everyone in western North Carolina recover from this devastating storm. #FuquayVarinaNC
