What are the top 3 things that people need to know about refrigerant tracking? 1. Phase-Down Process: Refrigerants are being phased down, so this means choosing new refrigerant types for equipment, impacting roughly five percent of the market initially. 2. Upcoming Changes: As the phase-down on the GWP limit begins, a switch from R410 refrigerant is required. This change involves not only new equipment but also new refrigerant types, affecting future choices significantly. 3. Scope 1 Emissions Impact: A major portion of scope one emissions comes from fugitive refrigerant emissions. Accurately reporting these emissions, especially for refrigerants like R22, 410, and 134a, will be crucial for compliance. This 2024, these emissions need to be included in 10K filings, highlighting the importance of tracking and managing refrigerant inventory effectively. The second phase of refrigerant phasedown has already begun. What does this mean and how will you navigate this transition? The following graph shows the HFC production and consumption phasedown schedule as outlined in the AIM Act. Starting 2024, the final rule will achieve a 40% reduction, driving U.S. manufacturing and innovation. This phasedown rule establishes baseline levels for HFC production and consumption, introduces an allocation and trading program for HFC allowances, and implements a digital compliance monitoring and enforcement system. To learn more about what this means for you and your business, we discuss more about the EPA Phasedown here: https://buff.ly/4bE7Qs7

🚨 The second phase of the HFC phasedown began on January 1, 2024. Here's what you need to know: In order to advance US manufacturing and innovation, the EPA is implementing a mandatory reduction in the production and consumption of HFCs by 40%. This step is part of the broader aim to reduce HFCs by 85% over the next 15 years, a major effort to combat global warming. What does this mean for you? 1. Companies must transition to refrigerants with lower Global Warming Potential (GWP). This will impact production, importation, and application-specific allowances. 2. The EPA will issue allowances to regulate how much HFCs each company can produce/import. These allowances are now more crucial than ever, as they directly influence a company's ability to operate within the new limits. So, businesses must rethink strategies to align with these new regulations, as market changes are expected to occur in refrigerant availability and pricing due to reduced supply. This week, our refrigerant expert Ted Atwood takes a deep dive on what this all means for your business: https://lnkd.in/dA9bxiQd #HFCPhasedown #ClimateAction #GlobalWarming #Sustainability #EPA
