What's Your Why? Purpose + Passion Mrs. Miller Story (A 96-year-old woman in a Senior Living community from Fresno, CA) "This is supposed to be the vegetable-growing capital of the United States," Mrs. Miller yelled while we sat with two other gentlemen over our lunch meal. I said, "I can tell that the broccoli is frozen, but it probably has some nutrition in it." Mrs. Miller then slammed her fist down, frightening the two other gentlemen at the table while making the water glasses spill all over. It was dramatic, and she was visibly disturbed! She then exclaimed in a loud voice while pointing her finger at me, " That's not the point, young man; the fact is I've been living in these senior living communities throughout the country for the last 20 years, eating nothing but frozen vegetables and foods that had little to no flavor or color. She raised her voice even higher and said, "This is supposed to be the vegetable-growing capital of the United States, and they are serving this crap to everyone. If you're here to change the food, then you have an impossible job ahead because it's like this everywhere. At this moment, with chills up and down my arms, I knew this was my god given purpose in life to help improve the food in these senior living communities while living in my passion for food. It's where X meets the sweet spot, and I knew then that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Thank you Chef Stephan C. Baity for going on this incredible journey with us!
