What do the US military, government agencies, libraries & schools have in common? They turn to us for language learning.

About us

What do U.S. Government personnel, the military, public libraries, universities, and business executives have in common? They turn to Transparent Language for their language-learning needs. They're serious about languages, and so are we. At Transparent Language, we treat language learning as more than just a casual pursuit. For our customers, including some of the U.S. government's most stringent language schools, success is not optional. Their students must reach a specified level of proficiency in a set amount of time. We make their challenge our mission: to train language faster with more reliable results. A picture that's worth a thousand words. Except we wrote a couple hundred words about it because... it's a great story. Libraries are on the front lines of supporting immigrants and refugees. Which in the UK is more than 17% of the population as of 2021. They're responding with a slew of creative literacy programs. English literacy, financial literacy, digital literacy, and on and on. But logistics and language barriers can get in the way. Newcomers can’t take advantage of library resources they don’t know about. That’s why Blackburn Central Library in the UK started with coffee. Back in 2022, they began welcoming refugees from Ukrainian guests into their community with a weekly “Coffee Morning”. Something calm and familiar in the midst of so much that's unfamiliar. They also use that time to introduce free library services. Including giving demos of the English for Ukrainian speakers course in Transparent Language Online, as you can see in the photo. It means so much when libraries send us updates like this. It makes it all worth it. We're so proud to play a tiny part in helping libraries serve these communities. Bravo to our team who made it happen: rushing to release that English course when it was needed most. And support libraries using it. And bravo to Blackburn who is still hosting Coffee Mornings to this day! #librariestransform #esl

More voices. Earlier this week, we put that forward as our guiding principle for language advocacy. Every language—and every voice—matters. And that’s how we at Transparent Language advocate for languages. Leading with the belief that every language matters. And investing in as many as we can. We are proud to donate our technology to 7000 Languages, a non-profit organization working to empower communities around the world to teach, learn, and sustain endangered and indigenous languages. So far, we’ve partnered to create and host courses in 30 indigenous languages from all corners of the world, from South America to the Caucuses to First Nations, and beyond. Those courses are available to the communities who create them, but also patrons of thousands of public libraries across North America, Europe, and Australia. Want to explore any of these languages in honor of UN International Day of Indigenous Peoples? Find a participating library near you: https://lnkd.in/e2Zwn2QK

What does it mean to be a language advocate? With the U.N. International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples coming up on August 9, our Senior Executive Lorie Roule has been reflecting: what are we even advocating for? As a fellow advocate put it: "More voices." More voices. That’s what we need to celebrate and increase multilingualism. One such voice in that conversation: linguist and children’s author Victor D. O. Santos, Ph.D. and his marvelous illustrator Anna Forlati. His latest illustrated book, What Makes Us Human, selected by UNESCO as the official book for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, asks us what it is that makes us human. His answer (spoiler alert): language. It's so worth a read to find out why. In the spirit of “more voices,” whose voice would you like to highlight? And how will you use your own voice in your community to amplify the importance of language? #endangeredlanguages #InternationalDayoftheWorldsIndigenousPeoples
