Happy blogging anniversary to me! Today I’m celebrating the 18th anniversary of blogging. Can you believe it? Way back in 2006 I started a personal hobby blog just for fun because it seemed like everyone I knew was doing it and I had serious FOMO. I found that I loved writing about life, sharing my adventures and what I was learning with others. Years later I transitioned to a travel-focused blog, Traveling with Purpose and I’m still at it today. Here’s a fun look back at what my life was like in 2006. Very different than it is today. My husband and I were living in Phoenix, Arizona. [We’ve moved away and back since then]. I was working full time as an event and travel planner for a small non-profit organization. At the time it was called “Leadership Catalyst”. Now it’s Trueface [ @truefacelife ]. Our daughter [ @AmyTeegan ] was working on her Master’s degree at Arizona State University. Our son, Kevin [ @smarmey ] was in the Air Force, learning Mandarin at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, California. During 2006 we had an unforgettable trip with friends into a snowstorm in Flagstaff, Arizona. My dear friend, Linda [ @lindalarsonthompson ] planned an epic local tour to a bunch of scrapbooking supply stores for me and our daughters Amy, Miranda [@miranda_mertz ] and Nicole [ @ nicole_ellis_thompson ]. Terry and I took a fantastic vacation to the Pacific Northwest and experienced Victoria, British Columbia, Mount Rainier National Park and Olympic National Park all in the same trip. I’m a firm believer in celebrating the little things in life. Sometimes that means looking back to see where I’ve been and how far I’ve come. Every season brings something new and this year brought my blog redesign and update. Yay! I love marking this simple milestone and look forward to continuing to share this adventure that I truly love with all of you. #fridayfeeling #flashbackfriday #fridaysforfuture #traveldeeper #mindfultravel #conscioustravel #travelwithpurpose #travelwithmeaning #inspiredtravels #iamtb, #itravelbecause, #travelbloggervibes, #travelblog, #blogtravel, #travelbloggerlife, #travelbloggersofig #instatravelblog #mytravelblog #travelnowlifelater #travelgirlsgo #femaletravelblogger #letsgosomewhere #cntraveller #traveltogether #traveltolearn #arizonablogger #sedonaaz #nps

I'm so excited to announce the launch of my totally redesigned travel website!!! I was able to do it mostly myself [with the help of a bit of technical support]. I'm quite proud of it if I must say so myself. I'd appreciate if you'd check it out and let me know if you come across glitches, typos or errors. I'm in the process of cleaning up any broken links and updating old posts, but the overall design is set. Thank you for your support along the way! https://lnkd.in/duKUuYuK #travelblog #travelwriter #usatravel #blogger #travelingwithpurpose #travelblogging #newwebsite

I'm in the late stages of a total redesign of my website and this quote is particularly appropriate today. There are times when I feel like giving up, but I'm still plugging along and I'm cautiously excited that it's going to actually work. I'd be thrilled if you follow me here so you can get the announcement when the new site is live. I think you'll like it. #travel #travelblog #quote #inspiration #success

If you've ever driven through central Phoenix, you may have seen this building and wondered what it was. Have you ever had a chance to tour this wedding cake castle? Now's your chance! Enter the lottery by June 15th for a chance to buy tickets for the fall tours that start in September. The only other way to get tickets is to check their website often to see if there are cancellations. We were lucky enough to snag a cancellation last spring and had a great time touring the property. #visitphoenix #TovreaCastle #historichomes #phoenixhistory #arizonatravel #phoenixgems #downtownphoenix #travelblogger https://lnkd.in/gepEq2ay

I'm always on the lookout for historic hotels or adaptive reuse buildings. There are some gorgeous ones here...especially St. Louis Union Station Hotel! Wow! #adaptivereuse #historichotels #repurposed #travel #hotels #historicpreservation
Last month Historic Hotels of America, a program of the National Trust, released the Top 25 Historic Hotels of America Best of Adaptive Reuse list. From a former seed company warehouse to a decommissioned train station to an old glass factory, these examples of adaptive reuse pair fascinating architecture and history with a unique lodging experience. Learn about eight sites from the list: https://ow.ly/hGUs50S8mAc Pictured below: View of the exterior of the Ledges Hotel. Photo courtesy Historic Hotels of America
