Busted Myth: Homelessness Caused by Laziness or Drugs? ❌ While drugs and mental health can be factors in some cases, poverty is the undeniable root cause of homelessness. Here's the reality, backed by data: > A National Coalition for the Homeless study found a staggering 63% of people experiencing homelessness lost their jobs before ending up on the streets - Source: National Coalition for the Homeless, "What Causes Homelessness?". > A National Low Income Housing Coalition report highlights the massive gap between minimum wage and affordable housing. The average worker needs to earn over $25/hour for a modest two-bedroom rental, far exceeding the national minimum wage of $7.25 - Source: National Low Income Housing Coalition, "Out of Reach 2023". And these are just a few examples. Unexpected medical bills, domestic violence, or simply a lack of affordable housing can push anyone into homelessness. We've even seen an increase in homelessness amongst elderly individuals, who's fixed incomes can make it extremely difficult to keep up with local inflation and housing prices. We challenge you to change the narrative. Many people in our communities are one major financial cost away from facing homelessness. It's time to drop the judgement and begin focusing on solutions. Will you be a part of the change? #EndHomelessness #TreasureCoast #TCHSC
