Our team would like to share a bit of a story & some GIS news 📰 with our followers: In 2020, when we launched the 🌳 Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge 🌳 alongside Elaine Clegg & the City of Boise, we needed a web-based platform to: (1) engage the community in this important work;(2) capture the impact of this initiative. The result of this effort, led by Pamela Bond, GISP and her team at City of Boise, was an ArcGIS Hub site at: https://lnkd.in/gubZsiq4. Fast forward ⏩ to 2024 and: (1) our partnership with Pam has evolved into her and Go West Geospatial Services LLC as a contributing member & the data steward for Treasure Valley Canopy Network (TVCN); (2) City of Boise & TVCN have just completed a 2024 Boise Tree Canopy Assessment with Sanborn; (3) we’re now mapping out plans for the future of our TVCN GIS-based community engagement tools that will be built in 2025 and beyond. We couldn’t be more excited and curious about what’s ahead for TVCN & our partnership with Go West Geospatial Services LLC. And we’re also happy to share the opportunity to dig deeper into this GIS story thru Pam’s newly released Bootcamp GIS course “GIS + i-Tree Tools to Promote Environmental Justice”: https://lnkd.in/giD6in3P.

This month, we're breaking down the countless environmental benefits of urban parks and green spaces in cities. ♻️🌳🏙️ Urban parks and green spaces are the great mitigators of climate change. Trees in cities can reduce heat by 6-10° and large, shady trees reduce heat by 10-20°. A lush tree canopy is crucial for cities facing longer and hotter summers. ☀️ Learn more about the environmental impact of urban parks at: https://lnkd.in/gGk9E4DE.
