California just passed a game-changing law that will redefine the fashion industry’s approach to sustainability. This is what you need to know: California's Responsible Textile Recovery Act of 2024 is set to change how brands handle textile waste. This groundbreaking legislation mandates that brands with over $1M in annual global revenue manage the entire lifecycle of their products through collection, recycling, and reuse. With full compliance required by 2030, now is the time to get ahead. One powerful solution? Resale. Not only does it keep your products in circulation longer, but it also aligns your brand with new regulations. 🚀 📝What you need to know: - Who is impacted: Brands, retailers, and producers in California with $1M+ annual global revenue. - Key deadlines: Be ready by 2030, but the sooner you start, the better! - Why resale matters: It helps brands meet EPR requirements while driving new revenue streams. The clock is ticking. Are you ready to turn these requirements into opportunities? Learn how: https://lnkd.in/ejgrR4_C

Another iconic brand goes resale. 🤠 Today is the official launch of Tecovas Trading Post, where the love for quality craftsmanship meets the power of resale. The demand was paramount, with buy/sell/trade and enthusiast groups totaling 45K+ members. Tecovas built a marketplace where their fans can buy and sell gently worn boots, apparel, and accessories. It’s a program designed with a purpose: to make it simple, safe, and enjoyable for Tecovas customers to trade their timeless pieces and discover new ones. We’re excited to bring a circular shopping experience to a brand with such a passionate following, ensuring that each piece can continue its journey with a new owner. 5 things you should know about the future of sustainability in fashion. ⬇️⬇️ We're sharing some key insights from Sourcing Journal's Sustainability Summit that we think every brand should know. 1️⃣ Sustainability can be profitable, just ask Dôen Kristine Kim from Dôen shared their experience with Hand Me Dôen as a perfect example of a sustainability initiative that has proven to be a revenue-driving and strategic channel for the brand. 2️⃣ Regulation is here It's not a matter of if but when government oversight on sustainability in fashion will come into play, with legislation passing already like California's Responsible Textile Recovery Act. 3️⃣ Engage with your customers on their terms Elisabeth de Gramont from Frank And Oak pointed out during the summit that innovation in materials is crucial, but it's not enough on its own. Consumers want to know how sustainability efforts affect them personally; storytelling is the key to making these connections. 4️⃣ Cross-Industry Collaboration is Vital Cross-brand and cross-provider collaboration accelerates progress by pooling knowledge and resources, enabling quicker solutions. Amelia Eleiter from Debrand stated the need for brands and manufacturers to collaborate with recyclers and sorters early in the product development journey so we can better design for circularity. 5️⃣ Understanding Your Product Lifecycle Designing for circularity from inception through manufacturing is paramount to ensuring an item lives its longest life before properly being recycled. Adam Taubenfligel from TRIARCHY shared how they swapped plastic in their denim for a biodegradable rubber, which breaks down in two years. Then, to test this further, Triarchy used scraps of their denim as fertilizer to grow tomatoes. We dive deeper into these topics in our newest blog, linked in the comments!

Our team is buzzing from Sourcing Journal's Sustainability Summit. Here's why: This event brought together 200 sustainability and operation leaders from across the fashion industry, eager to learn new innovations and ways to become more circular. It was inspiring to be in the room with so many brands eager to make a change! Our team loved catching up with brands like Reformation, Everlane, Citizens of Humanity Group, and more! Our CEO and co-founder, Jake Disraeli, took the stage to talk about extending the garment lifecycle. Joined by Dôen's Impact Leader, Kristine Kim, we were able to dive into the success of their resale program Hand Me Dôen and how it's become a strategic channel for their brand—far beyond just a marketing initiative. Later in the day, Dôen received a well-deserved "Innovator of the Year" award! If we didn't get a chance to connect, you can learn more about Treet in a two-page feature in Sourcing Journal's Sustainability Report: https://lnkd.in/e6R-Uh7p Grateful for the opportunity to connect, learn, and share what we're building at Treet. #SJSummit Merritt Blankenau Michelle Williams
