Trimble Precise Positioning reposted this
Here's some takeaways from my #CECECongress 2024 panel session with Laura Fiumara, Kris Bické and Rodrigo Carles Martinez on the EU Data Act last week in Madrid: - The EU Data Act's focus on co-generation of data implies a shift towards data access, usage, and sharing. - A key point for Data Holders and Service Providers in particular is the development and the promotion of interoperability frameworks that facilitate seamless data sharing between different systems and platforms, such as standardizing data formats and APIs to ensure compatibility and reduce integration costs. - There is also clearly a need for monitoring and feedback mechanisms to address any issues that arise during the implementation phase and a possibility to update the regulations based on real-world experiences and technological advancements. - Data Holders will need to clearly communicate what data is available, how it is used, shared, and protected, fostering a trusted environment for data co-generation. - Finally, the focus on data accessibility can open new market opportunities by enabling companies to enter markets that prioritize open data ecosystems - this could involve developing new products and services tailored to sectors that benefit from shared data environments. For companies like Trimble, the biggest challenge for the short term will be to accommodate on time all the requirements from the new directives such as the Data Act, but also the Machinery or the Radio Equipment Directive, or the Cyber Resilience Act. There is a lot to do, and this has to be done while many of the OEMs and Service providers have to figure out a new business model in relation to Data. On the other hand, the sky is the limit regarding opportunities for the long term. Trimble's strategy "Connect & Scale" has never been more appropriate!
