September is National Suicide Prevention Month. During this month we remember the lives of those lost to suicide and the people, families, and communities that have been impacted by it, as well as think about those who have experienced suicidal thoughts. The month is also an opportunity to raise awareness about suicide prevention and spread messages of hope. Everyone has a role in preventing suicide and promoting mental wellness. By fostering open conversations, offering support, and spreading awareness, we can help reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and connect people to the resources they need. The WRMA CARES Charitable Match Program offers a charitable match of employees' donations. We are proud to support our employees in fundraising initiatives that are important to them. Heidi Freymiller, an instructional designer in our Learning and Resource Center, cycled 150 miles in two days up the shore of Lake Michigan to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She has participated in this event for nine years and has personally raised over $20,000 for blood cancer research and patient support. This year, at almost $3,800, is her most successful fundraising year yet. “Donations from staff and their WRMA CARES matches were nearly a quarter of my fundraising total for 2024,” Heidi said. “I am grateful to my wonderful co-workers and the WRMA CARES program for supporting this cause that is so important to me and so many others.” We congratulate Heidi on her successful fundraising efforts and thank her and other staff who use our match program to make a difference in the lives of others. #CharitableMatch #LeukemiaAndLymphomaSociety #CorporateCulture

Today marks the anniversary of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, established on Aug. 18, 1990, through the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act. This program funds cities, counties, states, and local organizations to provide essential HIV care, treatment, and services to over 550,000 people—more than half of those diagnosed with HIV in the U.S. In 2022, over 89% of clients receiving care through the program achieved viral suppression, meaning they cannot transmit the disease and can live longer, healthier lives. Additionally, 57,000 health professionals received education and training to improve HIV treatment. WRMA has worked with the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program for more than a decade to help confront the HIV/AIDS epidemic in our country. Happy Anniversary to the National Apprenticeship Act! Today, we celebrate the landmark legislation that has empowered millions of Americans with the skills and training needed for rewarding careers. Since its enactment in 1937, the National Apprenticeship Act has been instrumental in promoting workforce development, bridging the skills gap, and fostering economic growth. This act allowed the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to issue regulations protecting the health, safety, and welfare of apprentices and preventing discrimination in apprenticeship programs. At WRMA, we are proud to support initiatives that expand apprenticeship opportunities, especially in early childhood education. We work with the DOL to expand Registered Apprenticeship programs in early childhood education through the Early Childhood Workforce Connector.
