Mentorship plays a crucial role in professional development. At TRS, we support our staff in building strong mentoring relationships that lead to lasting success. Cait Macdonald and Kirk Sims - current mentee/mentor duo, participate in the Investment Management Division mentorship program, created to support the wellbeing, development, and connectivity of division employees across the Trust. Kirk told us being a mentor “allows me a chance to share my career experiences and insights with the incredible younger talent we have here at TRS. It also is a learning experience for me, as it keeps me plugged into the issues that are concerns or motivations for our employees.” Cait, mentee, shares that “it’s a great way to be intentional about building relationships outside of your immediate team with people that have bought into the concept of being a mentor.” #Mentorship #ProfessionalDevelopment #Connections  

Tommy is a Senior Associate on the Emerging Managers team. The Emerging Managers program aims to generate strong returns by accessing a smaller manager set. With six years of TRS service, Tommy was drawn to our teams, culture, location, and values. The Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS) are hosting the 20th annual Emerging Manager Conference on Tuesday, February 11! It is virtual this year given the high number of participants. Register here: https://lnkd.in/ebNj-kva   TRS and ERS are globally recognized institutional asset managers with combined assets under management of more than $240 billion. Combined, the retirement systems manage the investments of over 2.4 million members.   On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the virtual conference will go live. The conference will showcase the 6th annual Allocator Hall, giving GPs direct access to asset allocators. Additionally, the virtual medium gives attendees 30 days to access content on-demand.   TRS and ERS are expecting emerging managers from across all asset classes along with public and corporate pensions, endowments and foundations, asset allocators, and consultants. The objective of the conference is to provide a space for small and emerging managers to connect with a broad set of asset allocators while also sharing industry-leading insights and best practices. Department Spotlight: Marisa joined TRS in 2022 as an Employer Reporting Specialist. As a key member of the Exceptions team, she analyzes data submitted by Texas public education institutions, known as Reporting Employers. Marisa diligently researches data integrity concerns that could impact our members' benefits and collaborates with the Reporting team and Reporting Employers to make necessary corrections. Marisa loves working at TRS because of her amazing teammates! From the top down, she has always felt welcomed and valued. Department Spotlight: Lily joined TRS in 2018 and is a valued member of the Disbursements team. She plays a crucial role in ensuring our members' payment instructions are always accurate and up-to-date. Lily also handles unique payment situations, such as stop pays, reissues, EFT returns and reversals, and rollover payment changes. Lily loves working at TRS because of the incredible team spirit and the supportive colleagues who are always ready to lend a hand.
