To solve the world’s most pressing issues, we need to empower those closest to inequity to be drivers of responsible innovation. trubel&co is a culturally-responsive technical education platform that champions diverse youth to disrupt society for the better. By integrating STEM education with civic innovation, trubel&co creates a pipeline of change makers committed to improving their community using equitable data analytics, responsible technology, and inclusive design.
In our approach to democratizing access to technical education, trubel&co grounds career technical education and experiential learning with liberatory design and abolitionist frameworks, empowering youth to build STEM skillsets as a means of tackling community-based challenges and designing ideal futures. Our curricula center identity and place while mobilizing students as agents of change within society, resulting in trubel&co diversifying STEM, building critical consciousness, and instilling self-efficacy.
Our services fall under three core pillars: Instruction, Service-Learning, and Exposure.
📚 Instruction: Our flagship program, Mapping Justice, teaches students how to design geospatial tools for social change. Students learn GIS, explore the intersection of Race, Power, and Technology, and create digital apps tackling community issues.
🧑🏾💻 Service-Learning: We mobilize students to directly apply their skills in the field while fulfilling the technical deficit within social impact organizations. We are co-designing Resilient Civic Futures, a deconstructed hackathon for college and graduate students to apply geospatial learnings to advance environmental justice.
🔍 Exposure: To advance our pedagogy on culturally-responsive technical education, we offer opportunities to engage with students and instructors. This may take the shape of student workshops, professional development, conference talks, or more!
