  • When was the last time you verified if your PBM’s promises are backed by real transparency, or are you just trusting their definitions? So, your PBM claims to be full pass-through, offers excellent discounts, and promises to perform at a certain financial level. That's great... as long as these claims are made on a level, verifiable playing field. But when the PBM creates its own definitions for things like "rebatable dollars" or decides what's considered a "brand vs. generic drug," they're invariably stacking the deck to meet their own standards—every time. Because remember: "The house always wins." Don't hesitate to ask your PBM for clear definitions or clarification on their processes and promises. If they can't (or won't) provide straightforward answers... Well, some things speak for themselves. 🚩🚩🚩 Trust but verify.

  • Don't let your PBM lock you into a long-term contract that could cost you—both in dollars and in peace of mind. Many PBMs require a 60-90 day termination notice, so it's essential to mark your calendars and submit notices in time. But before signing that next contract, here are some things to take into consideration: - Is the PBM requiring you to sign into a multi-year agreement? A lot can change in two to three years. What if they aren't delivering the desired services and outcomes? Do you have a way out? - If the need for early termination arises, what are the consequences? Often, hefty financial penalties ensue. Here's a healthier alternative (taken directly from our Pharmacy Services / Business Associates Agreement): "This Agreement is for a one (1) year term following the Effective Date...Client or TrueScripts may terminate this Agreement by providing sixty (60) days prior written notice of termination to the other Party at any time without cause." No fault. No financial penalty. No rebate retention. We won't hold you prisoner if you're unhappy with us. Interested in unshackling yourself and learning more? Let's talk!

  • Carving out pharmacy benefits from the health plan allows employers to partner with a mission-aligned PBM that prioritizes the plan’s performance and the well-being of its members. By leveraging the ability to partner with a conflict-free PBM, clients can rest assured that members receive the right medications and support, leading to better health outcomes and reduced absenteeism. In turn, a healthier workforce drives higher productivity, benefiting both the organization and its employees.

  • A classic case of "nothing comes free." While low admin fees might look good on paper, it’s important for plan sponsors to understand that they WILL be paying for their PBM services in another way. In this case, the tricky part is verifying what you are paying for and how much. $0 or very low admin fees are common among many traditional (and even some “transparent”) #PBM models. However, with some PBMs generating upwards of $100 BILLION each year, it’s clear they are not working for free. So, where is the money coming from? Remember: Every dollar a PBM makes is put into the system by the client or member. So, unfortunately, “If you are not paying for the product, you are the product.”

  • It’s time to review your PBM contract termination requirements NOW! If your clients are considering PBM changes this year, act now! Verify the current PBM contract's termination notice provision. Many contracts now require a 120-day notice, meaning you must notify by September 1st for a January 1st effective date. Failing to submit notice in time could lead to significant financial and operational consequences, including additional fees, loss of rebates, and extended contract obligations. Multi-year contracts may also limit flexibility, locking you into terms that no longer serve your best interests. Contract length is another important and easily identifiable component. Multi-year agreements can be detrimental as they limit flexibility and may lock you into terms that no longer serve your best interests. We recommend shorter, 1-year agreements to maintain the flexibility needed to adapt to changing needs and market conditions. At TrueScripts, we prioritize transparency and fair practices. Review your contracts carefully, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance. We're here to support you and your clients—contact us today @PartnerWithUs@TrueScripts.com.

  • Transparency in PBMs: Insights from the FTC Report The FTC's recent report on pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) brings to light critical concerns about hidden fees, opaque pricing, and conflicts of interest. These issues have significant implications for both plan sponsors and consumers, affecting drug pricing and access to care. At TrueScripts, we’re committed to a different approach—one built on trust and transparency. We don’t engage in hidden fees, and essentially every dollar billed reflects the actual cost paid to the pharmacy. With no ownership in pharmacies or health insurers, our only focus for over a decade is on serving our clients and their members with Amazing Care. The FTC report underscores the need for greater transparency in the PBM industry. If you’re exploring ways to ensure your pharmacy benefits are managed with integrity and clarity, we’re here to help.
