We share an original Tai Soo Kim architectural rendering to honor the original 20-inch scope at the F.W. Olin Science Center that was removed this week to make way for the new 14-inch telescope, CDK350 Observatory System. 1995 – F.W. Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, New London, CT “The rooftop observatory required a standalone structure to reduce the transference of typical building vibrations.” The design strategically places the new science center at a prominent location viewable from the main entrance at Mohegan Avenue. Collegiate Gothic-style buildings make up most of Connecticut College’s campus architecture. The new science center was a “combination of Gothic outline with modern detailing” with a gable roof at each of the four corners and a domed observatory. The exterior stone blends harmoniously with the existing campus architecture. With views of the Thames River, the building houses Physics, Astronomy, Geophysics, Arboretum, and teaching labs for Chemistry and Biology. https://lnkd.in/garrdf_R #TaiSooTuesday #Observatory #Rendering Image Description: Architectural rendering of the Connecticut College F.W. Olin Science Center. The sketch shows two three-story buildings with a large central structure flanked by two wings. A stone wall runs along the foreground, and cars are parked beside a road.

TSKP STUDIO recently had the opportunity to tour Earthlight Technologies’ new headquarters in Ellington, CT. TSKP has collaborated with Earthlight on two of our Net Zero Energy schools in Manchester, CT. Having outgrown their previous location, Earthlight collaborated with The Barn Yard to design a facility that achieves #NetZeroEnergy performance. In addition to solar, the Earthlight facility employs geothermal and battery storage systems. Its new headquarters, designed with sustainability at its core, reflects Earthlight’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Thank you, Sam Schneider, Jake Schneider, and John Smith, for the tour! #BatteryStorage #EnergyEfficiency #Learning Image 1: TSKP and Earthlight are sitting around a conference table.
