Reflecting on my past 2 internships: New York City Department of Transportation and Unadat I still remember the nerves and uncertainty I felt before starting my internships. I didn’t have any relevant job experience, and it seemed like the workforce demanded skills I’d never even heard of—things school didn’t teach me. But just last week, I presented an internal database mapping tool I created, which has the potential for ongoing usage by 10+ internal teams. It’s a reminder that while those initial feelings are completely normal, they don’t define your journey. The truth is, as students, we can’t expect to know everything right off the bat. What’s important is our ability to LEARN and adapt. I’ve always made it a point to dive into research and side projects outside of schoolwork, focusing on tech trends and prepping for my internships. Programs like NYC Tech Talent Pipeline have also been amazing in boosting my journey. That extra effort gave me a head start, not just when applying, but also when onboarding and getting to work. Beyond technical skills, something I’ve learned to be even more crucial is communication. I can’t stress this enough—asking questions is key. It’s way better to ask for clarification than to stay silent, struggle with a task, and end up delaying the team. Clear communication helps you complete tasks more efficiently and makes you a valuable team player. Another big takeaway for me is that being innovative and thinking outside the box can really set you apart. It doesn’t have to be a groundbreaking idea—sometimes, even a simple suggestion can add value. For example, suggesting how a project might attract more users with the help of an AI chatbot could be just what the team needs. Bringing ideas and value to the table, no matter how small, can make you stand out and really shine. I've grown a lot in the past two years, from considering switching majors after failing my first CS class to now excelling in internships and constantly thinking about what to build next.

Midway Reflections on My React / React Native Internship at HubSpire My last two months at HubSpire have helped me gain invaluable hands-on experience and reached several key milestones: Key Learnings: - GraphQL & Apollo Client: Streamlined data fetching and state management. - UI/UX Enhancements: Designed intuitive, visually appealing interfaces and implemented seamless user experiences. - State Management: Leveraged Redux for efficient state handling and local storage solutions like Async Storage. - Form Validation & Navigation: Implemented robust form validations using react-hook-form and zod, and ensured smooth navigation. This internship has truly opened my mind to the potential of mobile app development. I am now deeply interested in this field and excited to push my boundaries further. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey, learning more, and contributing to exciting projects. I am so thankful for this opportunity and grateful to my supervisors and coworkers for their guidance and support.

Midway Reflection as an Intern at HubSpire: As I reach the halfway point in my internship, I’m excited to share some of the key learnings and experiences I've gained: 🔹 Next.js: I’ve worked extensively with Next.js, implementing CRUD operations and authentication workflows. Mastered file-based routing, TypeScript, and server-side rendering to create SEO-friendly web applications. The framework’s versatility and performance optimizations have been invaluable. 🔹 GraphQL & Apollo Client: Learning GraphQL and integrating Apollo Client has been a game-changer for efficient data fetching and simplifying client-server interactions. Features like pagination and caching are much more streamlined, allowing me to fetch exactly the data I need without over-fetching, under-fetching, or redundancy. 🔹 Expo Go & React Native: My first experience with mobile development through Expo Go and React Native has been eye-opening. Learning the nuances of mobile UI/UX, including handling scrolling, touch interactions, and dynamic displays, has opened up a whole new world of development possibilities. As I continue this journey, I’m eager to continue learning, build on these experiences, and contribute to HubSpire's success.
