As he reflects on his career, now honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Texas Tech Alumni Association, Dr. Mehta’s journey is marked by memorable teaching experiences, groundbreaking research, and a profound commitment to mentorship.

CECE Professor Dr. Xinzhong Chen Receives 2024 Alan G. Davenport Medal (IAWE Senior Award) CECE faculty Dr. Xinzhong Chen has been awarded by the International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE) the 2024 Alan G. Davenport Medal (IAWE Senior Award) "for his contributions to the field of aerodynamics of bridges and buildings and bridges through advanced analysis, modeling, and simulation tools." This award is one of the major awards in the field of Wind Engineering. Dr. Chen also received the 2024 Robert H. Scanlan medal for ‘advancing the field of aerodynamics of building and bridges through development of analysis, modeling, and simulation approaches.’ The Robert H. Scanlan Medal is awarded to an individual in recognition of distinguished achievement in engineering mechanics based upon scholarly contributions to both theory and practice. The area of achievement will generally be structural mechanics, wind engineering, and aerodynamics. He was also a recipient of the ASCE Jack Cermak Medal in 2017, one of the highest recognitions in the fields of wind engineering and industrial aerodynamics. Dr. Chen joins Professor Ahsan Kareem, NAE Member and Professor of University of Notre Dame, as the only two researchers in the United States to have the Cermak, Scanlan, and Davenport Medals.
