We had the pleasure to visit tokai solar car team last week to learn from one of the best in the world. We gained invaluable insights, and we look forward to applying these lessons to develop our own solar car at Tufts University. Thank you so much for having us!! #東海大学 #tuftssolarvehicleproject #tsvp #usa #japan

A student-initiated project with Tufts ME, designing, building, and racing solar vehicles to educate and inspire.
About us
Tufts Solar Vehicle Project is a student-initiated project founded in conjunction with the Mechanical Engineering department of Tufts in late 2022. The project is currently in the process of building its first ultra-efficient, road-legal vehicle to take on cross-continent races and outreach events across America over the next two years. So far, we have garnered the interest of 45+ students from many backgrounds, and are continually growing to provide hands-on inter-disciplinary engineering and business opportunities for Tufts students.

This summer, we received a much anticipated package from RapidDirect Co., Ltd, featuring our custom-designed anodized aluminum wheel rims! A huge shout-out for their support in making our most challenging designs come to life!

Thank you to Symmetrix Composite Tooling for letting part of our team visit and tour their facility! We were able to see their incredible projects and received some valuable feedback for manufacturing our car’s aerodynamic shell (plus it was a super fun roadtrip). We also just got approved for 26k of supplementary funding to prepare for our upcoming competition and are now working towards finishing up our sub team projects!

A super cool time-lapse of electrical co-lead Xamier Ferran assembling the spot welder that will be used to put together battery packs! The electrical team has been working really hard this semester, and it’s very exciting when things start coming together ⚡️🔋☀️

Happy New Year! This year has been a huge one for our team- we are now officially recognized as a club from Tufts Community Union, we have launched our crowdfunding campaign (link in bio to donate!) and we have begun construction on our first vehicle! So far, we have made progress on solar cell lamination, completed the mold for our chassis, and started manufacturing on our steering and suspension systems. We are so grateful for everyone involved this year and we are excited for everything coming down the road in 2024! 🌞

Our crowdfunding campaign is live! We are currently fundraising for materials, off the shelf parts, equipment and race fees. Your donations aren’t only supporting the construction of the vehicle, but also access to hands-on, technical learning experiences that aren’t available in the classroom. We can’t do this without you! To become involved in the campaign, use the following link to donate: https://lnkd.in/d6WGyU9f Thank you so much for your continued support!
