Today the United States Supreme Court agreed to hear the appeal of the Ninth Circuit's decision in the case of City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Gloria Johnson et al. Tully Bailey LLP filed an Amicus Brief on behalf of its clients urging the court to accept this case. This is one of two cases many cities claim prevent them from adequately policing the creation of tent cities on their property. We look forward to the court clarifying the law, but in the meantime call on cities to prevent unsanctioned camping on public property. Preventing this unlawful conduct will benefit all citizens including those living on the streets, for which indifference and lack of intervention is not compassion.

This is a great example of why we have three branches of government. Phoenix believed the laws did not apply to it. The court held otherwise with tangible results. Results that have benefited the businesses and homeowners in the area and those living on the streets, hundreds of which have now accepted shelter. Perhaps a ray of sanity is breaking through the cloud on nonsense and neglect. We can hope.
Phoenix's largest homeless encampment, 'The Zone,' is now gone
