On Saturday, September 14th, TV One partnered with Comcast Texas for their "Uplift Texas" community event at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston, Mission Bend Club. Special guest LeToya Luckett, Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and actress, participated in an intimate fireside chat moderated by KPRC 2 anchor Candace Burns. The day was filled with exciting family activities, impactful recognitions, and connectivity to important resources within the Houston area. Last week, TV One and CLEO TV headed to New Orleans for the 30th annual ESSENCE Festival of Culture! Thousands of fans were treated to a preview of two exciting, new series while making their way through the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Additionally, Celebrity chef and bestselling author Jernard Wells (host of CLEO TV’s “New Soul Kitchen” and “New Soul Kitchen Remix”), participated in a “Real Men Cook” panel on the Suede Men’s Stage. In conversation with ESSENCE’s Entertainment Editor, Okla Jones, Chef Jernard was joined by Marlon “Chicken” Williams (owner of Chicken’s Kitchen), actor Omar Dorsey (“Queen Sugar”) and Greg Tillery (Founder of the We Dat Food Truck) to share their journeys on the road to becoming leaders in the culinary world. 3x GRAMMY-winning global superstar Ludacris joined Urban One for a full “Luda Day” at Cannes on Influential Beach to celebrate the impact of Black culture on Juneteenth! Urban One’s CEO Alfred Liggins sat down with Ludacris for a special ONE-on-ONE conversation to discuss representation, Black excellence and history. Ludacris’ day with Urban One was also a “full circle" one. He shared how he started his career as a DJ on Urban One-owned station 97.5 FM, now 107.9 FM.
