Check out this new report by our partners Council for Court Excellence: "Is DC more secure?" DC’s law enforcement spending hit $1 billion in 2023 but without a clear increase in justice for victims. Data on stops, arrests, and supervision show the criminal legal system disproportionately impacts Black DC residents. Arrest and incarceration have major financial consequences for individuals and families; one of the reasons Tzedek DC has launched a project focused on returning citizens and currently incarcerated residents. CCE's report noted that 75% of returning citizens are unemployed; Tzedek DC supports The Council of the District of Columbia's efforts to reform DC’s Clean Hands law to ease access to occupational and business licensing. We need to do more to ensure everyone who wants to work can. https://lnkd.in/eHyKW3VD
