A Michigan company that makes materials for semiconductors has been tapped to receive up to $325 million in federal funding toward a new facility on its campus west of Saginaw. The funding will support the production and purification of hyperpure semiconductor-grade polysilicon, a crucial ingredient in advanced chips, according to the announcement. A news release said the company and U.S. Commerce Department "have signed a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms."https://lnkd.in/eHZQWFaW

“Quantum sensors are already being field-tested to rapidly detect airborne pathogens like COVID and measure brainwaves for the early detection of neurological diseases... ...Imagine visiting a doctor, having your health data analyzed in real time, and receiving a custom 3D-printed medication tailored to your specific needs—all in the same visit.” That is why Deputy Security of Commerce Graves and the Dep. of Commerce are doing all they can to make sure the U.S. is the global leader in quantum. During our D.C. day, we discussed both quantum and semiconductor ambitions with the Deputy Secretary of Commerce, Under-Secretary Locascio (Director of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)), Michael Schmidt (Director of the CHIPs program) and SIA's John Neuffer. The U.S. once led the world in semiconductors—so how did it let that lead slip? Now, with the CHIPS Act, the country is re-industrializing the sector, but what lessons can it learn to avoid making the same mistakes in quantum and AI? These are questions we explored ahead of our upcoming large-length Newsweek feature on America's Next Chapter, set to be published in late November. Grant Valerie Alfred Madeline Investment Reports

What an incredible week in Atlanta celebrating minority business enterprise excellence at the 2024 National MED Week and National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) Annual Conference and Exchange! 🌟 From venture capital and strategic funding to government contracting opportunities, we explored pathways to help MBEs scale and thrive. Under the theme of "Defining New Norms," we brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and MBEs to chart the course for a more equitable business ecosystem. MBDA Deputy Under Secretary Eric Morrissette was honored to welcome Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves, who shared powerful perspectives during our Investing in America panel and 2024 National MED Week reception, as well as Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo for an insightful fireside chat with NMSDC President and CEO Ying McGuire. Congratulations to our remarkable 2024 National MED Week awardees who exemplify excellence in MBE development. Your achievements inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs! Thank you to everyone who joined us as we work together to create lasting economic opportunities for minority business enterprises across America. #MEDWeek2024 #NMSDCConference #DefiningNewNorms Black Star Fund, CALIFORNIA ASIAN PACIFIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, Endemic Venture Capital, Business Consortium Fund, BlackRock, The White House, U.S. Department of Commerce, Export-Import Bank of the United States, U.S. Small Business Administration, MBDA Federal Procurement Center, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), GSA, Steve Benjamin, Reta Jo Lewis, Esq., Dilawar Syed
