There was a spike in electricity generation from natural gas on July 9, resulting from high temperatures across most of the country and a steep drop in wind generation. U.S. power plant operators generated 6.9 million megawatthours of electricity from natural gas on a daily basis in the Lower 48 states on July 9, 2024, probably the most in history and certainly since at least January 1, 2019, when we began to collect hourly data about natural gas generation. https://lnkd.in/dMURymYV #electricity #naturalgas

About us
The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) is the statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy. EIA collects, analyzes, and disseminates independent and impartial energy information to promote sound policy making, efficient markets, and public understanding of energy and its interaction with the economy and the environment. EIA is the Nation’s premier source of energy information and, by law, its data, analyses, and forecasts are independent of approval by any other officer or employee of the United States Government. Consumption of natural gas in Europe consistently decreased since mid-2022, driven by a combination of mild winter weather and government policies aimed at reducing natural gas consumption. In 2023, natural gas consumption in the European Union’s 27 member countries declined 18% from the previous five-year average according to Eurostat data. During the first five months of 2024, consumption remained 19% below the 2017–21 average for the same months. https://lnkd.in/eUXfZSPa

The amount of natural gas injected into storage since April is 15% less than the previous five-year average for the same period and 15% less than the same time last year. Despite the decrease in injections, working natural gas inventories in the Lower 48 states remain relatively high following the warmest winter on record. https://lnkd.in/d7VNZB_6 #naturalgas #natgas

The average monthly wholesale spot natural gas price at the U.S. benchmark Henry Hub fell by 20% to $2.56 per million British thermal units between January and June of this year. The Henry Hub price averaged $3.18 per million British thermal units in January, then dropped to $1.49 per million British thermal units in March, marking the lowest average monthly inflation-adjusted price since at least 1997. https://lnkd.in/enwKHrDP #naturalgas #natgas

Global LNG trade increased 3.1% globally in 2023 to average 52.9 billion cubic feet per day, an increase of 1.6 billion cubic feet per day from 2022. Expanded export and import capacity and increasing natural gas demand drove the growth in global LNG trade last year. LNG export capacity expanded primarily in the United States, Mozambique, Russia, Indonesia, Norway, and Oman. LNG import capacity was expanded primarily in Europe and Asia. Data comes from a recently released report from GIIGNL - International Group of LNG Importers https://lnkd.in/ebtVkK8h #LNG #naturalgas

We expect that U.S. households will spend an average of about 2.3% of their disposable income on gasoline in 2024 and 2.2% in 2025. Increases in vehicle efficiency and household income will offset forecast growth in gasoline prices and consumption in our forecast. https://lnkd.in/gYnMqJkN

The inflation-adjusted value of all energy trade between the United States and Mexico: 2022: $77.8 billion 2023: $66.5 billion Energy trade value represents the total value of energy imports and exports between the two countries. It is influenced by both commodity prices and the volume of commodities imported and exported. The value of inflation-adjusted U.S. energy exports to Mexico declined by 19% in 2023. The value of inflation-adjusted energy imports from Mexico decreased by 6% in 2023, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, which has been collecting this type of data since 1996. https://lnkd.in/eYDfbQaP
