  • For #USSteel, our proposed partnership with Nippon Steel is more than just a business transaction. It’s about building a stronger, better future for our employees, communities, customers, and the many other stakeholders who depend on us. As Scott Buckiso, SVP & Chief Manufacturing Officer for our North American Flat-Rolled Segment, said Sept. 4 at a rally in support of the deal, “U. S. Steel and Nippon Steel are stronger, more secure, and better together.” Hear more of what Scott told hundreds of Pittsburgh-area employees – union and non-union – who attended to show their support for the deal and learn more about why this transaction is truly the #BestDealForUSSteel.  Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dKC4ZxZA

  • In a recent interview with CBS News, West Mifflin Mayor Chris Kelly, whose community is home to U. S. Steel's Mon Valley Works’ Irvin plant, warned of severe consequences if the proposed acquisition of U. S. Steel by Nippon Steel is blocked by the Biden administration. Mayor Kelly highlighted the critical role that U. S. Steel plays in the local economy, noting that mill closures would devastate generations of steelworkers and their families. Nippon Steel will invest no less than $1 billion to enhance the competitiveness of the Mon Valley Works which will protect jobs and secure pensions, and the Mayor emphasized, “This is a win-win for everybody.” He also expressed frustration with national politicians, stating they haven’t consulted local workers or union leaders about the true impact this deal will have on their livelihoods. https://lnkd.in/dQ4XnrH6

  • Sharing this commentary from Japanese PM Taro Kono emphasizing the importance of keeping government intervention in business deals fair and principled.   While national security and labor issues can sometimes influence the free market, Kono raised concerns that politics, particularly in light of the U.S. presidential election, may be distorting the process.   Read more about his perspective on the U.S.-Japan relationship and the potential impacts of the deal: https://lnkd.in/ea4t6Y-9

The Japan-U.S. Business Council has shared its concerns about the politicization of the review process on the U. S. Steel-Nippon Steel Sale. Comments on the Reports Regarding the Biden Administration's Blocking of the Sale of U. S. Steel to Nippon Steel Corporation: "We are very alarmed by any attempts to politicize the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) review process on the sale of the U.S. Steel to Nippon Steel Corporation, which should be conducted objectively based on fair rules and processes. The Japan-U.S. Business Council is closely monitoring the situation with serious concern. The U.S. and Japan are indispensable allies and each other’s top foreign investors. The deep ties between our two economies support millions of jobs, enriches communities, and strengthens our collective national security. We urge the U.S. government to proceed with the CFIUS review with rigor and impartiality.”

  • Today, hundreds of #USSteel employees—union and non-union—joined with community leaders from the Mon Valley to show their strong support for the partnership with Nippon Steel. This rally was a powerful reminder of our shared commitment to protect jobs and build a stronger future for the communities we call home. For generations, the families of the Mon Valley have relied on the strength and resilience of U. S. Steel, and this partnership would ensure that those jobs remain secure for the next generation. A special thank you to Allegheny Councilman Sam DeMarco, West Mifflin Mayor Chris Kelly, Braddock Borough Councilwoman Chardae Jones and Mon Valley employees Justin Calderone, Tom Tyszkiewicz, and Mark Yezovich for sharing their strong support for the U. S. Steel and Nippon Steel partnership. Their voices reflect the unity between our workforce and local leadership, reinforcing how important this deal is not only for the future of American steel but also for the economic stability and job security of the Mon Valley and surrounding communities. Together, we are working to ensure a prosperous future for our workers, families, and neighborhoods. #BestDealForUSSteel
