As an angel investor with a Pre-Seed AI deal currently in diligence, there are two things I want to flag about the $27.1B deployed into AI:
1️⃣ VCs will always invest in trends
- Happened w/ DotCom in 90s/00s, w/ Future of Work during COVID
- It’s a numbers game and you gotta play (big) to win
- I know this. I get it. It makes sense. Next.
2️⃣ VC signaling can also be dangerous and irresponsible
- Leads founders to believe they HAVE to become an AI startup
- Sheep-like VCs (with 0 background/knowledge) invest out of FOMO
- The same VCs often convince startups to shift entire business
Notions like “The AI train is leaving the station & you need to be on it,” though completely warranted, can be misleading for some founders.
Yes. AI is taking over and creating some revolutionary advances – but not *all* startups need to be AI startups.
Remember in 2021 when crypto and blockchain had a whopping $32.8 billion in VC funding?
All of that went to shit when ONE GUY took advantage of booming trends and showed the market what happens when you don’t look close enough.
Case in point: Founders, while VCs may convince you to build an AI startup, or shift your entire business to focus on AI for the sake of fundraising,
Be cognizant that funding trends come and go, and new trends are always on the rise –
No matter how revolutionary, how sustainable, or how life-changing the current technology is.
Shoutout to James Callan for bringing this to the feeds.
The UAlbany Innovation Center team was honored to join founders Julien BOUGET and Jeff Olson in Amsterdam, NY for the launch of the nation's very first universal e-bike charging dock. A livestream of the event can be viewed at https://lnkd.in/e3PYfWTE.
Make no mistake. The startup boom that escalated during the Covid lockdown is here to stay, and tech startups are driving it, especially in the area of AI. We recently welcomed Markets EQ to the Innovation Center, a company making its mark in the AI space.

re:Charge-e Launches First Universal Wireless Charging Station for Electric Bikes in New York
The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), re:Charge, Shared Mobility Inc., Drop Mobility, and community leaders will come together on Monday, July 1 at 10 a.m. at the Mohawk Valley Gateway Overlook to announce the deployment of a new wireless electric charging station in Amsterdam to support CDTA’s CDPHP Cycle! bike share program.
This pilot program is the first in the United States to use wireless power transfer to charge shared electric micromobility vehicles. On-street universal charging from re:Charge can dramatically reduce operating costs and increase vehicle availability, making shared bikes and scooters a more attractive, available, and affordable transportation option.
