New CMAS FIM world record for Alessia Zecchini We are thrilled to announce that Italy’s champion Alessia Zecchini has once again extended the limits of freediving by setting a new world record at the Camotes Freediving Challenge in the Philippines. Achieving an outstanding depth of 104 meters (341 feet) in the Free Immersion (FIM) discipline under CMAS regulations, Zecchini's performance was initially met with challenges. Despite facing an adverse wave upon surfacing, which led to an instinctive reaction and a preliminary red card, her relentless pursuit of excellence prevailed. Following a meticulous review of the dive footage and a successful appeal, the decision was overturned, and she was rightfully awarded a white card. This achievement not only highlights Zecchini's exceptional talent and dedication but also underscores the vital role of advanced technology in enhancing the accuracy and fairness of competition judging in freediving. Her ability to overcome adversity and harness the support of the freediving community exemplifies the spirit of this demanding sport. Last Sunday, Uba Vision left a mark on the audience, the organizers, and the judges at the 3rd Trofeo Sporting Lodi. Why this? Because it offered a unique perspective for spectators, allowing them to follow the competition with ease. It also served as a valuable tool for the judges, providing real-time performance data to aid in their evaluations. Uba Vision’s software platform combines sports metrics with images, offering a unique and specific view for everyone involved. With real-time telemetry, the system captures and records athletes’ data during performances for later analysis. Fixed and mobile cameras catch the highlights of the competition, while the mobile applications simplify the event management for the judges, the medical staff, and the organizers. Starting from May, the Uba Vision service will be available for all types of indoor competitions, and soon for outdoor events as well. And starting from June, an ROV currently undergoing testing will be able to follow deep-water competitions. A big thank to the organizers for hosting us and to the athletes! Ever faced the unexpected challenge of blocked sinuses during apnea training? 🤔 Our best advice: resist the urge to push through and exit the water. However, if you’re feeling adventurous and want to give it a shot, try making several gentle dives to a depth of just 1 meter, slowly equalizing, and delicately blowing your nose after each dive. Why 1 meter? It minimizes the risk of failed equalization, and it helps reduce air volume, allowing for potential mucus movement.
