About us
Our mission is to provide students with a broad, fundamental, and flexible educational program and to expand engineering knowledge through an active and exciting undergraduate and graduate research program. The department is dedicated to providing life-long development, instilling a sense of professional responsibility, and serving our society. We provide an environment that promotes teamwork and values integrity and honesty in all efforts. Civil and environmental engineering is an inherently interdisciplinary field. As such, students select groups of courses in one or more related application areas, such as computer science, applied mathematics, urban and regional planning, economics, chemistry, and management. The civil and environmental engineering curriculum leads to the B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. Find us on: • Twitter: @CEEUCI • Facebook: @UCICEE • Instagram: @ceeatuci

Engineering Students Build on Their Technical Knowledge to Help Other Communities “We equip people and help build and foster communities in other countries, especially those that may not have the sort of technical and financial resources we do,” said Geoffrey Vander Veen, UCI CEE student. “The skills you use to build that project are exactly the skills you’d use in the industry for a lot of civil engineers.” https://ow.ly/X4mn50UPFvE

Tirtha Banerjee, UCI associate professor of civil and environmental engineering, is a global expert on the turbulence of wildfires. His Boundary Layers and Turbulence Lab is one of the handful around the world studying the interplay between fire, vegetation and the atmosphere. Banerjee and UCI Chancellor’s Professor Amir AghaKouchak, a leading expert on climate extremes and their effect on the environment, offer insight into the LA fires, one of the worst disasters in California’s history. https://ow.ly/I5FL50UOTYa

Dean Egerstedt and Office of Outreach, Access & Inclusion (OAI) invites engineering students and alumni for some friendly soccer fun at the Kickin’ It with the Dean Social on Saturday February 22nd, 9:00am - 11:00am at the Gabrielino Community Park, Soccer Field (Gabrielino Dr, Irvine). Playing soccer is not a requirement to participate. If you just want to bring your lawn chair/blanket and watch the game (plus we get to hang out together), you can absolutely do that too! Coffee, pastries, fruit, and water will be provided! RSVP at: https://ow.ly/4rK850UCUhT

Student volunteers with Engineers Without Borders aim to improve quality of life in underserved communities worldwide. In bringing the organization back to UC Irvine, co-presidents Brian Mora and Geoffrey Vander Veen, a third-year civil engineering student, say they hope to give Anteaters opportunities to serve the global community through various volunteer projects, applying engineering concepts through hands-on experience. https://lnkd.in/gHTH8KZa
