With the general election just days away, UCLA LPPI has released a new data brief that details the Latino demographics of Congress and how they’ve shifted over time. From the election of the first Latina in Congress to the growth of Latino numbers in the House, the analysis highlights how, despite these advancements, Latinos continue to remain underrepresented in legislative spaces. Our recent research uncovers the challenges faced by Spanish and Chinese speakers in accessing Medicaid through Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) in three major U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles, Houston, and New York. The report shows a critical gap in health equity for the Limited English Proficient population. Key recommendations by the authors aim to expand Medicaid coverage, enforce linguistically appropriate care, and enhance data infrastructure to improve healthcare access for foreign-born LEP adults with Medicaid managed care.
