🎓 Dear Doctoral Students, I hope you’re having an amazing semester! As you reach the final stretch of your doctoral journey, take a moment to reflect on where you are and what lies ahead. 💡 1. Be Thankful for the Journey This program is a unique opportunity: • Learning among leaders: You’re surrounded by visionary peers, learning and growing together. Remember, as Michael Fullan (2011) said, success in leadership comes from collaboration. • Gratitude for the challenge: Every hurdle is setting you up for lifelong growth! 2. Learning Is a Two-Way Street According to Hattie and Zierer (2017), learning is a partnership between professors and students. For true success: • Teaching quality is key, but so is your engagement. Together, we create a transformative experience. 3. The Purpose of Our Doctoral Program Our Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership at UHCL is like an MBA, but with an added twist—a dissertation! 💪 It’s designed to close the operational gaps many educational leaders face. • Managing scale: As Jim Collins (2001) highlights, public institutions don’t always operate like high-performing companies. We’re here to equip you with tools to manage large human capital and financial resources effectively. 4. Leadership Skills You’ll Develop Kotter (1996) reminds us that leadership is about executing a vision. Here’s what you’ll master: • Operational mastery: Managing people and resources at scale. • Strategic leadership: Turning management into student success from pre-K to higher ed. • Practical application: Real-world challenges are at the core of your learning here! Conclusion: Without strong emotional intelligence and operational skills, leaders risk creating disengaging environments, which lead to burnout and turnover. Our program is designed to help you lead with impact and success. Let’s continue to make meaningful changes that will shape not only education but the world. 🌍 We’re here for you. Let’s make a difference—together.
