🚀 Paper Published by Nature Medicine
#UII We're proud to share that our collaborative research with West China Hospital, Sichuan University, has been published in the prestigious journal Nature Medicine! 🏅 This study marks a major advancement in the precision management of pulmonary nodules detected through low-dose computed tomography (LDCT).
➡️ Key outcomes:
Through this work, we introduced a triage-driven Chinese Lung Nodules Reporting and Data System (C-Lung-RADS). Based on a large-scale dataset of around 60,000 cases, we successfully achieved a significantly improved AUC of 0.918 for malignancy risk prediction. Even more notable is its 87.1% sensitivity, reaching a level that is clinically helpful in improving early lung cancer detection, especially in resource-constrained regions. 🌍
➡️ Highlights of C-Lung-RADS:
◼️ The system operated in two consequent phases with different tasks.
- At the initial phase, it distinguished low-, mid-, high- and extremely high-risk nodules through an automatic acquisition of nodule size and density.
- Subsequently, the system integrated multimodal features such as imaging, clinical, and follow-up data to identify suspicious malignant nodules and refine the risk scale.
◼️ We have proposed a screening package that combines mobile CT scanners and AI software to maximize lung cancer screening participation. Mobile CT units can break through geographic limitations and have been applied in medical programs in grassroot areas across Sichuan province.
This breakthrough has the potential to redefine lung cancer screening and management in China, offering a more efficient, targeted screening approach to help patients get the right care, faster. 💡
