START: STEM Through Authentic Research Training (University of Kentucky)

The STEM Through Authentic Research Training (START) Program partners with University of Kentucky labs, departments, and community businesses to give underrepresented students and teachers authentic research experiences in STEM throughout a wide network of campus labs, exposing the next generation of STEM professionals to an array of career pathways. People of color, first generation, female students, and students with disabilities remain few within STEM fields; successful engagement and outcomes for these individuals ensures a vital increase in the quality of STEM higher education, research, and innovation needed to meet the challenges of tomorrow. START puts STEM within reach.
